12月 13日美術網站《The Collector》刊登一篇《Why Vermeer’s “The Art of Painting” Is More Than Just a Masterpiece》, 文章的主題畫《The Art of Painting》, 我因此得知畫家描繪自己工作狀態的畫稱為 recursive self-portraits (遞迴自畫像). recursive 的概念演化自數學的 Recursion, 意思是函數的定義包含函數自身, factorial (階乘計算) 是個最簡單的例子:

factorial(n) = n * factorial(n-1) , factorial(0) = 1.

我另外發現不少古今名畫家有這類的作品, 選幾幅分享如下.

Johannes Vermeer,《The Art of Painting》1666-1668 (據說畫中女子是他的女兒)

Rembrandt, 《Artist in His Studio》about 1628 (看似畫家退後幾步看著畫布思量接下來要如何畫). 

Jan Davidsz de Heem, 《Interior of a Painter’s Studio》~1630 (我只知道這位畫家以靜物畫聞名)

Winslow Homer, 《Artists Sketching in the White Mountains》1868 (熱門電影《Good Will Hunting》有一段對話提到他的大名, 他的畫風一時成為網路話題, 不過和這幅畫沒有關聯)

van Gogh,《Self-Portrait as a Painter》1886 

Norman Rockwell,《Triple Self Portrait》1960 (Rockwell 耍幽默, 三次遞迴)
