Hello Jeremy,

Sorry I couldn't reply any sooner. I failed to receive your last two emails before setting off for the medieval-ish and immensely enchanting Shrewsbury, and couldn't check the emails whilst there. I hope you had a nice weekend too?

Thanks to your recommendations, in fact I visited ALL of the pubs (bar one: Boat House - passed - but didn't stop - by), plus one or two more (incl. The Dolphin, a brewpub in itself, hard to reach but well worth a visit)~~

My favourite haunt is actually "Three Fishes" - decent and reasonably-priced fish dishes, frequently-rotated and smartly-selected local/regional ales all in nearly-perfect condition, great atmosphere and friendly bar staff... can't complain at all.

Dried hops were hung all over the place as decoration, matching the exposed wood beams just seamlessly. I actually visited that place three times during my stay!

"Loggerheads" is really nostalgic, in a way reminding me of the "Pevril of the Peak" in Manchester… Why? Maybe it's the layout of the pub, I don't know. Wait, no, this one is far more Spartan-ish in terms of interior, for sure...

But the true local feel there is quite impressive. A bunch of local council workers actually stopped by shortly for a pint of ale and sandwich, which to me was the sign of most “liberal” culture in Britain’s civil service…? If anything, it's the lack of local ales that bothered me. (to be continued...)
