Taipei Confucius Temple is the only one adorned with southern Fujian-style ceramic adornments in Taiwan. It was built in 1879 during the Qing Dynasty. During the period of Japanese occupation in Taiwan, the temple was demolished and later rebuilt in 1930 by Wang Yi-Shun. Since1951, the Taipei Confucius Temple Administration Committee has been responsible for taking care of operations and yearly ceremonies. In 1971, Koo Chen-fu and Chen His-ching (descendants of Koo Hsien-jung and Chen Pei-ken), gave the temple to the government in the belief that respecting the ways of Confucius should be an important priority for the nation. The Executive Yuan transferred authority over it to the Taipei City Government. In July 1972, the Taipei Confucius Temple Administration Committee was formally established and placed under the authority of the Civil Affairs Bureau. It is a National third-rank historic relic.
Ive already been to Taipei Confucius Temple volunteering my services as a tour guide for seven years. What a wonderful experience! I did gain a lot each tine when on duty. I enjoyed practicing my English, taking the challenge, and making friends with the other enthusiastic workers. To be frank, I still need to work harder to sharpen my speaking and listening abilities.
