91(Night Scene
Time: Evening
Setting: Outside the men’s dormitory
Characters: Shen Tingting, Yu Renjie, Jiang Muya, Students

▲ Jiang Muya, dressed in a light goose-yellow one-piece dress with a small vest over it, stands in the slightly cool evening breeze, watching pairs of student couples passing by.

Jiang Muya (OS): “Simple happiness—this is probably what I should be pursuing…”

▲ Shen Tingting walks over from a distance, linking arms with Yu Renjie.

Jiang Muya (OS): “Isn’t that Renjie? There’s already a girl by his side…”

▲ Muya quickly moves into the shadow of a tree.

Shen Tingting: “Which two songs do you think I should prepare for the competition, Renjie?”

Yu Renjie (sign language): “Just decide for yourself.”

Shen Tingting: “Every song you write sounds so good—it’s really hard for me to choose.”

Yu Renjie (sign language): “Pick the ones you feel the most when you sing them.”

Shen Tingting: “Alright! After I go back to the dorm, I’ll think it through carefully.”

▲ Tingting gives Renjie a kiss on the cheek.

Shen Tingting: “Sweet dreams, senior.”

▲ Tingting watches Renjie walk into the dorm before turning and leaving.

Jiang Muya (OS): “Sigh… Renjie already has a girlfriend. I’m so foolish…”

▲ Muya steps out from the tree’s shadow and leaves the dorm area.

92(Night
Time: Evening
Setting: University auditorium, Hongye Elementary School teacher dormitory
Characters: Shen Tingting, Yu Renjie, Jiang Muya, Host, Contestants, Teachers and students, Talent scout

▲ Inside the National Taiwan University auditorium, a campus folk song competition is being held. Contestants sit behind the stage, being called one by one to perform at center stage.

Host: “Next contestant is a future female doctor. Please welcome Contestant No. 7, Shen Tingting, performing the Taiwanese original song ‘In the Next Life, I Wish to Be Your Wife.’”

▲ Shen Tingting walks to center stage and picks up the microphone. Renjie’s piano prelude begins.

“When the autumn wind rises, leaves fall, birds cry outside the window,
Lonely and solemn in the dark, the autumn rain lingers endlessly.
Secret longing, no sense of delay, raindrops outside the window,
I recall the first time I met you—it was also in autumn.

Love entangled, I did not know the taste of sorrow.
Misunderstandings led us to quarrel, careless words tore us apart.
A sorrowful song, verses like threads of affection,
Each line a strand of longing, hoping you’ll return to my side.

Frosty wind chills, rain won’t stop, I feel no mood at all,
Dim streetlights in a foreign land, a drifting half-life.
Thinking back to when we were together, sweet moments,
Your figure before my eyes—now just a dream.

Bitter wine down my throat, joys and sorrows no longer matter,
Hearing the wind howl outside, tears fall at the sight.
A pillow for two, yet no fate to stay together till old,
If I leave first in this life, in the next life I wish to be your wife.”

▲ The entire audience listens in rapt silence, utterly absorbed.

▲ In the audience, a talent scout quickly turns on a recorder and stands up, taking several photos of Tingting as she sings.

▲ Only at the end of the song does thunderous applause suddenly erupt.

△ Scene transition.

▲ In the teacher dormitory, Jiang Muya watches the broadcast of the competition. The camera shows the side profile of Renjie at the piano.

Jiang Muya (OS): “Oh my God! Isn’t that girl the one with Renjie? Why does her voice sound so much like mine? Could it be that Renjie is with her because her voice resembles mine…”

△ Scene transition.

▲ The host walks to center stage. Renjie stands up and leaves the stage.

Host: “Miss Tingting, this original song is very similar to Jiang Hui’s ‘Jia Hou,’ but the lyrics and artistic conception seem even deeper. I noticed the audience was deeply immersed. How did you interpret this song?”

Shen Tingting: “First, I want to explain that the composer of this Taiwanese song is Senior Yu Renjie, who just accompanied me on piano. He is very shy and has written dozens of beautiful and moving songs. Secondly, the original singer of this song is actually Miss Jiang Muya, who just won the annual championship in the singing celebrity rankings this year. Although my tone is very similar to Miss Jiang’s, I expressed the song based on my own understanding.”

Host: “This is indeed a delicate and deeply moving Taiwanese song. Please return to the rest area, Miss Tingting. Next up is…”

93(Night
Time: Evening
Setting: University campus café
Characters: Shen Tingting, Yu Renjie, Zhang Zongxiong (talent scout), Students, Waiter

Shen Tingting: “Really? I’ve only sung one song, and the competition results haven’t even been announced yet!”

Zhang Zongxiong: “I have great confidence in your performance. Competitions like this are just a small test of your abilities. Your tone resembles that of Jiang Muya, the current top-ranked singer. I expect that once you release an album, you will be well received by listeners.”

Shen Tingting: “You flatter me too much. But I only treat singing as a hobby. In the future, my main profession will still be being a doctor. Besides, my family and my boyfriend don’t support me entering the entertainment industry.”

Zhang Zongxiong: “In any case, I still hope you will seriously consider this and seize the opportunity. Here is my business card—feel free to contact me anytime.”

▲ The talent scout stands up and takes his leave.

Yu Renjie (sign language): “I’m not forbidding you to sing. I just don’t want you to lose sight of what matters.”

Shen Tingting: “I know—you want me to keep singing as a hobby.”

Colleague B: “I’ve been wondering the same thing, but it’s her privacy—it’s not appropriate to ask.”

Colleague C: “Could it be that she suffered some kind of setback and came to a rural place like this? Otherwise, with her reputation, she should be developing her career in Taipei…”

Colleague B: “Teacher Wagang has been very concerned about her. I heard he even accompanies her to prenatal check-ups.”

Colleague C: “Could it be that Wagang has fallen for her?”

▲ Muya and Wagang walk past in the corridor.

Doctor: “The fetus is developing well. The due date is next month.”

Jiang Muya: “Doctor, I’d like to ask— I have epilepsy, and the child’s biological father has Tourette syndrome. Will these two conditions be inherited?”

Doctor: “Is your epilepsy congenital?”

Jiang Muya: “No. I had a car accident when I was young and suffered a head injury. The epilepsy appeared after that.”

Doctor: “In your case, it is acquired. Unless there is a hereditary history in the family, this condition will not be passed down. However, in the past, there have been cases where difficult labor caused oxygen deprivation in the birth canal, leading to brain damage and potentially triggering epilepsy. As for Tourette syndrome, if the father has a dominant form, there is a possibility of inheritance. However, it cannot currently be predicted through prenatal screening. We will need to wait until the child is born and observe over time to determine whether the child has inherited Tourette syndrome.”

Jiang Muya: “Doctor, thank you for your explanation.”

△ Scene transition.

▲ In the car on the way back, Muya sits in the back seat, gazing out at the open countryside.

Wagang: “Muya, what did the doctor say just now?”

School Nurse: “I have experience delivering babies, but I’ll need your help.”

Wagang: “Just tell me what to do.”

School Nurse: “Help me boil a bucket of hot water.”

Wagang: “Alright, I’ll go right away.”

▲ Wagang turns and heads to the kitchen.

Wagang (flipping through it): “Muya, so the songs you often sing and play come from here.”

Jiang Muya: “Yes. Wagang, you will like the songs in this book.”
