我對錢鍾書和楊絳有相當的保留。這一對夫婦，和陳寅恪一樣，對1949年之後的中國是懷有敵意的，可說是反共的民國遺老和局限於傳統士大夫思想的舊式讀書人。
錢鍾書以是唯一不接受毛澤東邀宴的知識分子而自傲。他在旅美時，曾經以訛傳訛的說郭沫若所著的《李白與杜甫》揚李抑杜，是為了逢迎毛澤東（根據研究郭沫若的學者李斌所述）。這真不像是君子所為（其實郭、毛是兩個高智商者惺惺相惜。）。
