(一)當名詞用：

  quiz------非正式的小測驗，不論口試或筆試均可。

  test------紙上測驗，用來測試對一項科目了解的程度有多少? 如月考。

  exam------正式的考試，有官方性質的考試，如期末考，檢定考等。

  (二)當動詞用：

  quiz------查詢或是索取資料的意思，但查問的適用場合較普通，如查問孩子去哪裡了，可以用這個字, 但仍有嚴厲的意味在。

           she quizzed her children about every move they had made while she was gone.

 test-----用以估量事物的品質的一套規則、公式或原則，而且強調使用工具來做出評估。有try it out 的動作存在。

          The dog scampered over the ground, inquisitively testing  everything with its pointed nose .

 exam-----察看某物，或加以研究，通常是有明確目的的，它可以指草草一閱或是詳究細節，但檢察的程度沒有inspect深入。

          She sat back in a chair and examined her fingernails.
