講到肥胖問題，實離不開漢堡快餐文化。在七十年代中期，美國快餐文化進軍香港開始，現已成為年青一輩流行的本土飲食文化了。曾幾何時，年青人視快餐文化為時尚生活姿態。在漢堡快餐文化衝擊下的新一代，隨著飲食文化改變，人們身型及體重跟著有明顯的改變。而本地兒童癡肥問題越來越嚴重，引起社會廣泛的關注。
專家們對高脂及高糖餐飲習慣有一定的保留，他們認為如果兒童早期對高脂及高糖飲食養成習慣，會令他們慣性地想食相同的食物，導致他們癡肥。更嚴重的是，一旦孩子因為過胖而要減肥 (即減低脂肪及糖份的吸收時)，他就像處於吸煙和吸毒相似的狀態，這會嚴重影響兒童腦部發育。也就是說，如果兒童早期習慣於高脂及高糖食物，就會更難戒掉習慣。

連鎖快餐廳選用的牛肉，都是採用天然雨林開採農地飼養牛隻，開墾雨林使樹林難以再生，導致生態出現嚴重破壞。再者，他們為了商業上的利益把農地經濟殖民，砍掉更多樹木，迫遷當地山區居民。他們每年不必要地耗掉數以噸計的包裝物料，浪費天然資源。
更甚者，他們以密集工業式飼養禽畜，飼養場極度擠迫，沒有新鮮空氣，沒有陽光和活動自由。最後，更被殘忍和粗暴地宰殺，所謂「人道宰殺」禽畜方式，衹不過是徒有虛名。
這幾年間，世界各地陸續有大漢堡快餐連鎖店因食品內發現有依波拉病毒而被檢控，在2001年，麥記在國外曾因依波拉病毒被法庭判罰40萬美元，阿根庭及智利等地的分店更索性關門大吉。去年甚至被消費者杯葛而要撤出一些國家。曾有消費者因美國攻打伊拉克為理由而杯葛麥記，但更主要的原因，是人們因為它提供的食物引致癡肥。從不斷有癡肥人仕控告漢堡快餐廳來看，「肥胖」將會成為嚴重的法理性的社會議題。
