【His Holiness Sheng-Yen Lu News】 His Holiness Lian-Sheng Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu expounded the profound meaning of Mahavairocana Buddha and the secret of attaining Buddhahood!

(TBSky News/Reported by Master Hui-Jun) On 4^th May 2013, at the invitation of Taiwan Temple, His Holiness Lian-sheng Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu presided over “Mahavairocana Buddha Fire Puja Ceremony”. Among the guests of honour were Xiong Wen Tang's 23rd lineage holder Dharma Sister Lian Ao and 24^th lineage holder Dharma Brother Zheng Quan Hui from Malaysia, as well as 70 representatives from Malaysia Lotus Light Charity Society. In addition, the department heads from True Buddha Foundation Committee, especially the Acharyas from USA, flew all the way back to Taiwan one after another to uphold and show their support for this grand assembly!

After the Fire Puja, His Holiness Lian Sheng Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu dedicated the merits, Homage to Mahavairocana Buddha of Vajradhatu and Garbhadhatu, please bestow blessings on the main supplicants, puja participants and online participants etc, deliver all sentient beings from the nether world to be reborn in the Pureland, extinguish all karmic sickness and misfortune, bless all with satisfactory fortune, wisdom and respectful love. Please transform to Acalanatha, to subjugate all demons of death, passions, illnesses and the deva.

Introducting the main deity Mahavairocana Buddha, His Holiness Lian-sheng Living Buddha Sheng-yen Lu said, “Today (we) conducted the Fire Puja of Mahavairocana Buddha of Vajradhatu and Garbhadhatu, and this main deity is also being addressed as 'Omni-Radiating Vajra', which means there is nothing and nowhere that His light would not reach. I remembered being at Qing Long Temple (Green Dragon Temple) of Xi'an, recalling how the Great Master Kukai of Japan travelled from afar to learn the Dharma from Venerable Hui Guo in China. After finishing his studies and returning to his country, they never met again. Venerable Hui Guo liked the Great Master Kukai a lot. This teacher missed his disciple and hence built the Tower of Sea Viewing (meaning 'to view and look at Kukai').

And the 88 spiritual temples that Great Master Kukai built in Shikoku, Grandmaster had toured them before. On seeing the inscription in one of the temples, a disciple looked and exclaimed, “Looks like the writing of Grandmaster!” (ardent applause from fellow disciples).

“The Dharma transmission by the 3 Mahasattvas - Vajrabodhi, Amogha, Subhakarasiṃha during the Kai Yuan period of the Tang Dynasty formed the Tantric Buddhism of China, and was subsequently transmitted to Venerable Hui Guo, and the root deity (yidam) of Great Master Kukai is Mahavairocana Buddha. In addition, Acalanatha is also an emanation of Mahavairocana Buddha, to guard and protect the Dharma.

“The Vajradhatu is the emanation of wisdom and is about 'effect'. The Garbhadhatu is the emanation of ruling principles and is about 'cause'. Mahavairocana Buddha and Acalanatha are highly revered deities by the Japanese. Mahavairocana Buddha has 3 Dharma mudras: the mudra of turning the Dharma wheel, the mudra of the 5 wisdom and the mudra of meditiation”

Apart from this, Grandmaster Living Buddha Lian Sheng Sheng-yen Lu personally demonstrated the formation of the 3 mudras of Mahavairocana Buddha from Vajradhatu and Garbhadhatu and chanted the mantra, “Om. Bie Za Da Du. Fan. Ah. Er. La. Hom. Kan.”

After which, Grandmaster Lian-sheng Living Buddha Sheng-yan Lu further expounded the Hevajra Tantric Teachings, telling the disciples the true state of mediation, “The difficulty of meditation lies in being trapped in drowsiness and in a state of flux...and the true state of meditation cannot be explained with words, just like seeing your Buddha-nature during meditation, it cannot be explained with words.”

“When Shayamuni Buddha was giving Dharma discourses, he picked up a stalk of flower, only Mahakasyapa was enlightened! What kind of state is this? Just like how does a single palm clap? It would be soundless, with no trace! And to show the Buddha-nature, Grandmaster had also stood on one leg. In addition, there is the koan of a monk who hit the ground...etc, all these are unspeakable, there is no time nor space.”

“After Grandmaster completed (his) tantric practice, (I) did the Nine Cycle Buddha Breathing Practice, the whole body became white, empty and void of thought...totally no thinking, not knowing where the body and mind is. This is meditation. No thoughts, everything becomes empty. The body itself is an empty house, at this time, there is no drowsiness (e.g. depression), flux (in modern words – bipolar disorder). Hence, the practice of Hevarja does not cause one to be drowsy nor in a state of flux. No time nor space. Real meditation has nothing..., I can only explain until here. Meditation has no beauty, ugliness, kindness or evil. Beauty and ugliness are very difficult to imagine and define. Entering into meditation proper, knowing the Buddha-nature and equality with no differentiation, (you) will clearly understand – the chaos in the world are all illusions.”

“How do you enter into meditation when you have afflictions, seven emotions & the six sensory pleasures? You have to remove them. Why are there afflictions? Because there is self. Nirvana is also a Dharma seal. When you have awakened, that is the state of Nirvana. Grandmaster is an enlightened being, with no so-called realisation of anything, no 'What is Nirvana'.”

His Holiness Lian-sheng Living Buddha Sheng-yen Lu further revealed the past life experience of a female practitioner, “In one life, Padmakumara descended and was born in India as a very beautiful lady. She saw how busy and mundane her life was and hence renunciated to recite the sutras, mantras and the Buddha's. Everyday she would do the cleaning and sweeping chores. All of a sudden, she received an inspiration from Buddha to marry a prince from a certain country. Hence she resumed secular life, married the prince and gave birth to Asanga Bodhisattva. Some time after she heard Buddha's voice talking to her, hence she remarried and gave birth to the second son Vasubandhu Bodhisattva. Both sons had the same mother but different fathers. So does everybody think she has sinned? She was ordained and then got married...tell you something! This nun is a Padmakumara. Hence, (her) rebirths and nirvana are unable to be deduced.” (Over dinner afterward, Grandmaster specially emphasized that this lady has long attained the nature of Emptiness and Pure Light, hence all that she did were pure. For the average practitioner, observing the precepts and to cultivate according to the order is still required!)

About the tantric realm of an enlightened being, His Holiness Lian-sheng Living Buddha further revealed, “If a tantric practitioner experiences a state of flux during meditation, then the heart energy has to be directed to the left and right channels. After Grandmaster completed his tantric practice, (I) did sleeping meditation, no form nor appearance, not knowing if I am awake or sleeping. Due to the sequential levels of attainment, practitioners must abide by the order of the practice and cultivate accordingly. Do not learn superficially from the surface.

“Grandmaster has eliminated all demonic obstructions, and would not be obstructed by demons or evil spirits. And Hevarja has great power and is indestructible, if the tantric practitioner channels the heart energy at the sacral chakra (guidance from the Root Guru is required for this), (he) will have great power and is indestructible. Grandmaster is strong, indestructible and has attained non-leakage. As long as your sacral chakra is fortified , all demons will fear you.

Lastly, His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng Sheng-Yen Lu revealed the essence of the 3 Vehicles and expounded on the state of attaining enlightenment, “The essence of Sravaka, Small Vehicle is to cultivate self-purity and never to harm others, to include the helping of others would form the precept of Mahayana (Great Vehicle) Bodhisattva, to view all as pure would be Vajrayana (Diamond Vehicle). Asanga and Vasubandhu Bodhisattvas are of Vajrayana. Their mother is Padmakumara who has attained emptiness and pure light. She realised all the conduct are pure. Because everything is pure, hence empty in nature. Vajrayana is completely empty in nature and pure, completely 100 marks!

The Dharma discourse in today's puja is truly profound and inconceivable! With His supreme wisdom of realization, His Holiness Lian-sheng Living Buddha expounded on the state of an enlightened being. What a huge and unprecedented revelation! We truly hope all True Buddha disciples are able to deeply appreciate the painstaking efforts of His Holiness and diligently cultivate according to the prescribed order, so as to obtain the protection and blessing of the lineage and be validated sooner!
