The Person Who is Unable to Arise Pure Faith

Zhi Fu, a Buddhist lay practitioner, followed a friend to a fire offering puja ceremony and received the empowerment of taking refuge. However, he had a mindset of leaving things to fate. He only participated once and did not come back again.

He was unable to have pure faith in Living Buddha Lian-Sheng Sheng-Yen Lu. There were many reasons:
1. Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu is short in height.
2. Media publicity reviews were not to Sheng-Yen Lu's advantage and in fact were very bad.
3. Relentless Disturbances.
4. Rumours concerning him were all negative.
5. The practice of Karmamudra.
6. Rumoured to have many females consorts
7. He drove a Bentley motorcar
8. People in the whole city generally had a negative impression of him.

He looked at Sheng-Yen Lu and the thing that puzzled him was this Master never paid any attention to all the criticism from the public. He lives his life, writes his books and expounds the Dharma as usual, as if everything is none of his business.

One night, Zhi Fu practitioner had a dream. In the dream, he saw Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu in the middle of a moon, transforming into a huge and majestic Yamataka with a blue-coloured body, with many heads, arms and feets. The face was that of Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu and was terrifying but at the same time, so majestic that one dared not look at him fully in the face. Subsequently, he saw Yamataka transformed to Amitābha, a towering and dignified Buddha form. emitting thousand rays of auspiciousness and unbounded golden rays from his whole body, with a benignant countenance.

Zhi Fu put his palms together and involuntarily paid homage to Amithaba. He looked and saw that the face of Amithaba had transformed to that of Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu. After which, he saw the emanation of Amithaba, Sheng-Yen Lu, had changed into a ball of bright light. The ball of bright light gradually rose upwards to the heavens and disappeared out of sight.

A voice came from the heavens, "Why did you not take refuge wholeheartedly?". After having this dream, Zhi Fu made time occasionally to attend Dharma talks at the Lei Tsang Temple.

There was once he truly saw that it was not Grand Master Lu on the Dharma Throne but it was Yamataka instead. Another time, it was supposed to be Grand Master Lu on the Dharma Throne but instead, he saw Amithaba, radiating light. On another occasion, he saw Grand Master Lu transforming into a cluster of light. One moment, it was light and another moment, it would be Grand Master Lu . He came to ask me, "I could not arise pure faith in you initially. What is the obstacle to that?"

I answered "Your ears and eyes have been heavily contaminated." He asked again "How do I not be contaminated?"

I said, "That requires meditation."

"And my heart is unable to have pure faith?" he asked.

"That requires stillness" I replied.

"What about all those rumours and criticisms of you? Are they true or false?" Zhi Fu practitioner said.

I replied, "There is no true or false in fact."

“I don't understand.” Zhi Fu practitioner said.

I replied, “The primary truth of Tagatha is there is no self, no others, no sentient beings, no existence of time, hence there is really no true or false.”

Zhi Fu practitioner said, "How do I arise my pure faith in you?"

I replied, "Arise your thoughts on Grand Master Lu's virtuous merits! For example, my giving, my adherence to the precepts, my diligence, my wisdom, my concentration, my endurance of humiliation. Think about my virtuous merits!"

Sure enough, Zhi Fu practitioner subsequently arose his pure faith in me. Grand Master Lu truly has virtuous merits!

智夫居士，他隨著朋友來參加護摩法會，也接受了皈依灌頂，但，他是抱著一顆隨緣的心，只參加一次，以後就沒有再來過。

他對蓮生活佛盧勝彥，無法產生「淨信」，原因非常的多：一、盧勝彥矮矮的。二、風評對盧勝彥不利、又是邪的。三、風波不斷。四、傳言都是負面的。五、雙身法。六、據說明妃多。七、他開「賓利」的車。八、整個城市的人，對他的印象，幾乎是不正面的。……。

智夫居士看盧勝彥，唯一不解的是，這個師父，從來就不理會外界的評論，照樣寫書、說法、生活，彷彿一切都不關己。有一天晚上。智夫居士作了一個夢：他在夢中看見盧師尊在月輪的中央，變化成一尊高大雄偉的「大威德金剛」，身藍色，多頭、多手、多足，臉是盧師尊的臉，非常的怖畏，但是卻具有大威嚴，令人不敢逼視。他又看見，大威德金剛變化成阿彌陀佛，高大莊嚴的如來身相，渾身放出瑞氣千條，金光萬道，慈眉善目。

他向阿彌陀佛合掌，不由自主的向阿彌陀佛頂禮，他這一看，阿彌陀佛的臉，已變成盧師尊的臉。後來他看見阿彌陀佛化身的盧勝彥變成一團光明。光明冉冉的飛上虛空，消杳不見。

虛空中有聲音說：「如何不一皈依？」智夫居士得了此夢，也就偶而抽出時間，到雷藏寺聽法。有一次，真的看見法座上，不是盧師尊，而是大威德金剛明王。又有一次盧師尊明明在法座上，他卻看見阿彌陀佛放光。再一次，盧師尊變成一團光。一回兒是光，一回兒是盧師尊。智夫居士問我：「我原先，生不起淨信，是何障礙？」　

我答：「你的耳朵、眼睛受汙染太多。」「如何不受汙染？」智夫居士問。我答：「那須要禪！」

「我的心不能淨信？」智夫居士問。我答：「那須要定！」智夫居士說：「那一切在外面的風評及傳聞？是真？是假？」

我答：「實無真假！」「不懂！」智夫居士說。我答：「如來的第一義是無我、無人、無眾生、無壽者，所以實無真假。」

智夫居士說：「我如何生起淨信？」我答：「生起盧師尊的善功德吧！例如我的佈施、持戒、精進、智慧、禪定、忍辱。我的善功德，你想一想吧！」後來，智夫居士，果然生起「淨信」。原來盧師尊真的有善功德啊！
