King of Hell answered:

"Sheng-Yen Lu, you may not know, the so-called nine is actually very long. It is according to the karma, to repay the debt as a cow, it would be lots of lifetimes if the debt is heavy, nine lifetimes if the debt is not heavy, the so-called official, do not know how to do good deeds, will have the retribution quickly."

"What karma has he committed to?"

King of Hell listed a few:

1. Extort money from the people. (Land readjustment)

2. Receive bribes. (Large purchases)

3. Deceive civilians. (Demolish houses)

4. Cut corners or do shoddy work and use inferior material. (Projects/tender given to unscrupulous merchants)

5. Collusion between government and businessmen.

6. Accept hospitality. (Whoring and gambling)

7. Tyrannically abuse of power. (Suppress and getting rid of the dissidents)

From the information provided by King of Hell, I know that he seems to have a very good reputation but the greed karma committed by him is numerous, voluminous, endless, and is very surprising.

I asked King of Hell:

"Fifty years in officialdom, why not do good deeds or good karma?"

King of Hell answered:

"Treasure ornate crown on the head."

"What does it mean by treasure ornate crown on the head?"

"Desire for power, desire for wealth."

"The karma is caused by desires?"

King of Hell answered:

"Being an official is risky!"

I asked:

"How to determine to be a cow for a hundred lifetimes?"

King of Hell answered:

In human realm, I saw cattle farming, saw cows be milked, saw human wearing cow leather shoes, saw human eating steak, saw ox-drawn cart, saw cattle sent to slaughterhouse...... cattle were whipped, cattle were butchered.

I asked:

"Does the cow know that he/she was an official in the past life?"

"Yes, the cow knows."

"Does the cow know it has done bad karma?"

"Yes, the cow does know."

Therefore I know when I see cow in tears, the poor cow knows that he/she is an official in the past life, and is a very high rank official.

I asked the King of Hell how to not become a cow in the future after being an official? King of Hell replied to me, one should take the amount of money depend on how much work he/she has done.

King of Hell said: "Only three words, be disciplined, subdued and dutiful."

I asked: "Who is able to be disciplined, subdued and dutiful?"

King of Hell's answer is: "Thousands of people, millions of people called do not look back or return."

我在陰間看見很多的帝王將相，每一位帝王將相都是人世間赫赫功名的大人物，也即是歷史名人。

這就是所謂：

「入地獄者帝王多！」

我認識一位有名的文官，官位當得很大，權傾一時，但在冥王之前，卻成了縮頭烏龜，戰戰兢兢，渾身顫抖，悔不當初。

他大叫：

「下輩子，誓不當官！下輩子，誓不當官！以我為戒，下輩子，誓不當官！」

其叫聲淒烈，令人驚心動魄。

冥王命令冥吏：

「再給披上牛皮，再轉世去，轉百世為牛！」

我問冥王：

「百世的牛，不對吧！一世官九世牛，這是人間的俗語，豈是一世官百世牛？」

冥王答：

「盧勝彥，你有所不知，所謂九字，是久也。依其業報，當牛還債去，債重則久世，債輕則九世，所謂為官者，不知修善業，報應迅速。」

「他犯何業？」

冥王列舉數條：

一、刮地皮。（土地重劃）

二、收賄賂。（大採購）

三、欺百姓。（拆屋）

四、偷工減料。（工程標給奸商）

五、官商勾結。

六、受招待。（嫖賭）

七、作威作福。（清算異己）

我從冥王給的資料之中，看到他表面上，名聲很好，但，所犯的貪業，竟然是林林總總，洋洋灑灑，看也看不盡，實在令人吃驚。

我問冥王：

「官場五十年，為什麼不為善業？」

冥王答：

「頭上寶華冠。」

「什麼是頭上寶華冠？」

「權利慾、財利慾。」

「是由慾造業？」

冥王答：

「為官危危！」

我問：

「百世的牛如何算？」

冥王答：

「他的金屋有多少典籍，就是這麼算！」

我在人世間，看見牛耕田，看見牛被擠乳，看見人穿牛的皮鞋，看見人吃牛排，看見牛拉車，看見牛被送入屠宰場．．．．．．，牛被抽打，牛被切割。

我問：

「牛知自己是大官否？」

「知。」

「牛知自己造業否？」

「知。」

所以我知道，當我看牛時，看見牛在流淚，可憐的牛，他知道自己前世是大官，而且是大大官。

我問冥王，做官的，將來如何能不當牛？冥王回我，做了多少事，便取多少事的錢。

冥王說：「只三個字，守本份。」

我問：「守本份，誰做得？」

冥王的答案是：「千人、萬人喚不回頭。」

試問，弟子如何答？
