她的父親是律師　自幼便接受福音音樂的薰陶

８０年代歐莉塔曾發行過兩張自費專輯　但並不成功

接下來便在堪薩斯

地方夜店演唱為生

１９８５年　英國電子流行／搖滾團體驚懼之淚（Tears For Fears）在一家飯店酒吧中聽到歐莉塔亞當斯的表演

驚為天籟

兩年後驚懼之淚邀請歐莉塔在〔The Seeds Of Love／愛的種子〕獻聲

專並發行與亞當斯合唱的〔Woman In Chains／被鏈住的 女人〕

（英國＃２６　美國流行榜３６）

讓歐莉塔開始受到矚目　並與驚懼之淚的唱片公司簽下合約

１９９０年５月　亞當斯發行第三張專輯〔Circle Of Life／生命循環〕

前兩首主打只在黑人界與英國獲得小成功

１９９１年初　歐莉塔在歐州發行第三單曲〔Get Here〕

本來這是女歌手Brenda Russel１９８８年譜寫灌錄的歌曲
亞當斯的版本則被驚懼之淚團員Roland改編成柔緩的抒情曲
在她高亢清亮的嗓音演繹下　讓此曲格外雋永迷人
此曲在英國拿到＃４　連帶〔Circle Of Life〕也登上冠軍　成為金唱片

１９９１年３月在美國發行　由於波斯灣戰爭關係

亦受到歡迎　得到流行榜＃５　成人抒情榜＃３　節奏藍調榜＃８
隔年並讓歐莉塔得到葛萊美最佳女歌手提名
