１９４８年１２月３１日生在波士頓的唐娜桑瑪（Donna Summer）原名Donna Adrian Gaines．

１９６８ 年，１９歲半的唐娜蓋恩斯（Donna Gaines，尚未改名Summer，１９７４年才正式定名）在荷蘭發行第一首單曲──［Haare／Hair］音樂劇原聲帶專輯中的插曲──［Wassermann／水瓶座］．

 

１９６９年，當時定居在德國的唐娜推出第二首單曲［If You Walkin Alone／如果你獨自行走］（Philips Records發行），

１９７０年，當時和［Hair］音樂劇朋友住在倫敦的唐娜與MCA唱片公司簽訂一份歐洲單曲合約．

１９７１年１月在英國和歐洲推出單曲［Sally Go Round the Roses／莎莉繞著玫瑰轉］，

這是翻唱美國女子團體The Jaynetts１９６３年名曲［Sally Go Round the Roses］（Billboard Pop#2,R&B#4）

由Lona Stevens, Zell Sanders創作，

 

 

前比吉斯（Bee Gees）樂隊吉他手澳洲音樂人Vincent Malouney製作成一首靈魂／搖滾／放克，

節奏穩定，和聲豐厚，２２歲的唐娜以她當時質樸扎實的嗓音從容的演繹．

由於沒有宣傳，這首單曲並未上榜，

英國音樂人Bob Stanley將唐娜的版本描述為「極簡主義放克」。
