Some friends envy me because I’m going to live in Canada but honestly I’m very nervous. I was born in Taiwan and have been living here for many years. I know it very well and everything is convenient. If I need some sugar, I don’t need to drive for half hour to get it. If I need some meat I can just go to the night market. Everything is so quick and convenient but in Canada I will probably need to wait until there are big sales to buy meat to stock up the freezer.

Another worry is TV programming. In Taiwan I can watch my favorite Chinese shows or read the subtitles on English channels. In Canada I can’t. I’ll need to listen carefully or I’ll need to guess. This applies to movies as well.

A good thing, however, is transportation. I have been driving for many years with the crazy people in Taiwan so of course there will be no problem for me to drive in Canada. The only worry is remembering to be a good driver all the time. I can not double-park and must stop at red lights. On the other hand I don’t need to worry about parking because it’s much easier to find a space. So, it’s lucky that I can drive otherwise I will have to stay home and wait for my husband to give me a ride.

The thing that I'm most worried about is winter. I have to learn how to drive on ice and snow and how to live in minus 40 degree weather. The idea really creeps me out but it will be an advernture and a challenge. Cosmo says when we get back there he'll buy a second hand car to let me practice. I just hope it won't be too difficult to drive on Canadian roads in winter.

So, while other people are envious I realize there will be many challenges. I need to work on my mental preparedness. Although I can speak English, there are still many things waiting for me to learn and get used to.
