這裡所說的“迴文詩”，就是能夠回還往複，正讀，倒讀皆成章句的詩篇。其實，不止是詩可以迴文，詞也可以迴文。
迴文有很多種形式，“通體迴文”、“本篇迴文”、“環復迴文”等。其中，尤以“通體迴文”最難駕馭。而下面這五首詩詞，都是能夠“通體迴文”的。
一、宋代蘇軾的《題金山寺》
潮隨暗浪雪山傾，遠浦漁舟釣月明。
橋對寺門松徑小，檻當泉眼石波清。
迢迢綠樹江天曉，藹藹紅霞晚日晴。
遙望四邊雲接水，碧峰千點數鷗輕。
迴文倒讀：
輕鴻數點千峰碧，水接雲邊四望遙。
晴日海霞紅靄靄，曉天江樹綠迢迢。
清波石眼泉當檻，小徑松門寺對橋。
明月釣舟漁浦遠，傾山雪浪暗隨潮。
二、宋代朱熹的《虞美人》
秋聲一夜涼燈瘦，寂寂愁新逗。
病蛩悲蟀小庭中，落月悄垂簾影翠房空。
輕煙黛鎖雙眉恨，背鏡情無准。
粉殘脂剩酒醒難，靠遍皺痕羅袖倚天寒。
迴文倒讀，還是《虞美人》：
寒天倚袖羅痕皺，遍靠難醒酒。
剩脂殘粉准無情，鏡背恨眉雙鎖黛煙輕。
空房翠影簾垂悄，月落中庭小。
蟀悲蛩病逗新愁，寂寂瘦燈涼夜一聲秋。
