劇本概要 

  一位名喚奧賽羅的摩爾人在威尼斯擔任將軍之職，任命卡西歐為他的副將，無意中引起他的旗官伊阿構之憎恨。伊阿構認為自己比卡西歐更有資格當奧賽羅的副將而懷恨在心，於是設計陰謀來陷害卡西歐和奧賽羅。心地單純的奧賽羅只把伊阿構當作忠心可靠的朋友。施詭計使卡西歐被免職之後，伊阿構暗示奧賽羅說他的新娘黛絲狄莫娜（威尼斯元老布若邦敘歐之女）與卡西歐有染。縱然奧賽羅不願相信伊阿構的指控，但是當伊阿構的陰謀（奧賽羅給黛絲狄莫娜的一條手帕跑到卡西歐手裡）得逞時，他的惡夢成真。憤怒的奧賽羅勒死了黛絲狄莫娜。埃蜜莉兒（伊阿構之妻、黛絲狄莫娜之忠僕）發現自己丈夫的計謀而斥責之。奧賽羅知道自己鑄下大錯，問說他將留下「用情不精而又太過」之名，然後自殺。伊阿構也因自己的罪行被判處拷打之刑。

本劇 戲劇結構最為嚴謹，藝術性也最完美。
