劇本概要 

  一位名喚奧賽羅的摩爾人在威尼斯擔任將軍之職,任命卡西歐為他的副將,無意中引起他的旗官伊阿構之憎恨。伊阿構認為自己比卡西歐更有資格當奧賽羅的副將而懷恨在心,於是設計陰謀來陷害卡西歐和奧賽羅。心地單純的奧賽羅只把伊阿構當作忠心可靠的朋友。施詭計使卡西歐被免職之後,伊阿構暗示奧賽羅說他的新娘黛絲狄莫娜(威尼斯元老布若邦敘歐之女)與卡西歐有染。縱然奧賽羅不願相信伊阿構的指控,但是當伊阿構的陰謀(奧賽羅給黛絲狄莫娜的一條手帕跑到卡西歐手裡)得逞時,他的惡夢成真。憤怒的奧賽羅勒死了黛絲狄莫娜。埃蜜莉兒(伊阿構之妻、黛絲狄莫娜之忠僕)發現自己丈夫的計謀而斥責之。奧賽羅知道自己鑄下大錯,問說他將留下「用情不精而又太過」之名,然後自殺。伊阿構也因自己的罪行被判處拷打之刑。

本劇 戲劇結構最為嚴謹,藝術性也最完美。
