the world of English (英文史)
整理 :

  1. Celtic languages :
    the original spoken language (英國某些偏僻地方還會使用)
  2. Roman Britain :
    Latin language became offical language but Celtic still used by people.
  3. Old English :
    5th cen. Anglo-Frisian languages, spoken by Germanic tribes. when Anglo-Saxons became dominant in England.
  4. Middle English
    after the Norman conquest (1066), adopting much French vocabulary(精細文化字彙), remained Germanic(日常間單用字).
  5. Early Modern English :
    15th cen. with printing press to London and the King James Bible as well as the Great Vowel Shift.
  6. Modern English :
    17th through the British Empire, English spared worldwide. Nowadays USA become the leading of this language.

  1. pre- : before (in time, place, order, degree, or importance).
    [ex:]
    predict : say or estimate that (a specified thing) will happen in the future or will be a consequence of something.
    previous : existing or occurring before in time or order.
  2. mor- : death
    [ex]
    immortal : living forever; never dying or decaying.
    morgage : convey (a property) to a creditor as security on a loan. 
  3. ann- : year
    [ex:]
    anniversary : the date on which an event took place in a previous year.
    annuity : a fixed sum of money paid to someone each year, typically for the rest of their life.
  4. ac- : take
    [ex:]
    action : the fact or process of doing something, typically to achieve an aim. 
  5. de- : away from
    [ex:]
    depart : leave, typically in order to start a journey.
