台北愛樂凌晨2點到7點的音樂水龍頭，有時候DJ會偷跑放一些還不是古典音樂的曲子，不多，也都還蠻配臺性的。其中有一首歌，是我每次做實驗時聽到心情都會變得很平靜的不好：

以前我從來沒有仔細聽Janis Ian這首出自專輯Billie’s Bones的I Hear You Sing Again在唱什麼，今天才知道原來歌詞是這樣的：

If I could only hear my mother sing again （如果我能再聽到母親的歌聲）
If I could close my eyes and hear your voice as then （如果我能闔上眼就能聽到您的聲音一如往昔）
All the friends and family
would sing along with me, （所有的親朋好友都跟我一起唱著）

歌詞很明顯是在說女兒對過世母親的思念，這背後其實有個小故事：Janis Ian的母親有多發性硬化症，Janis和他弟弟（也許是哥哥？）眼睜睜看著母親生命裡最後的10年，從靈活到僵硬，從肌膚光滑到身上有著跌倒的坑坑疤疤，從充滿活力到最後只能卧床與他們相對無言，他們想爲母親做些什麼卻不知從何作起，只能在母親48年人生的最後一天陪伴她。

母親走後，她做了2個夢。一個，是她夢到母親能再度自由的伸展軀體，另一個，是母親對她伸出雙臂將她擁進懷裡。

她知道，母親走得很安祥。

這樣就夠了。

這樣就夠了。

這是Janis Ian在紐約B.B. King Club說上面那段故事跟演唱的影音。我覺得，她現場歌聲裡內斂的哽咽，比mp3的乾淨版本更動人。（如果最後沒有中斷聆聽情緒的手機鈴聲就太完美了……orz）
