    "Peace is not difficult to put into words. It simply means adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing Taiwan independence. There are no other conditions."---Ms. Zheng Liwen

    The above quotes are excerpted from an interview she conducted a couple of days ago after returning from her visit to the Chinese Mainland. The words themselves seem impeccable, but there are fundamental differences across the strait: China adheres to "One China," which means there is no allowance for two sovereignties; and Taiwan insists on "equality," which is an euphemism for two countries. The differences are beyond reconciliation so far.

    It is a long way ahead for a final settlement across the strait if both sides rely solely on peaceful means. But as long as KMT hews to its name-- "The Nationalist Party of China" wholeheartedly, there is a hope.

    Peace is not achieved overnight; it is a long journey that requires patience, wisdom, and sincerity. As long as the direction remains steady, even if the road is winding, it is still possible to usher in stability and reconciliation in cross-strait relations."
