T. S. Eliot作詞，Trevor Nunn＋Richard Stilgoe附加歌詞．

以歌唱貫穿全劇的音樂劇《Cats／貓》在倫敦西區劇院公演．

本劇改編自T. S. Eliot1939年出版的詩集《老負鼠的實用貓經Old Possums Book of Practical Cats》。

音樂劇講述一群名為傑里科貓的貓族的故事，以及它們在某個夜晚做出“傑里科選擇”的情節：決定哪隻貓能夠升入天堂，獲得新生。

 

《貓》於1981年5月在倫敦西區的新倫敦劇院首演，獲得好評；

1982年10月在百老匯的冬園劇院上演，則褒貶不一。

該劇榮獲許多獎項，包括勞倫斯奧利佛獎和東尼獎的最佳音樂劇獎。

儘管其獨特的設定最初令投資者望而卻步，但這部音樂劇最終取得空前的商業成功，截至2012年，全球票房收入高達35億美元。

由３３歲的英國實力歌手伊蓮佩吉（Elaine Paige）演唱，她曾在倫敦西區音樂劇《貓》中飾演Grizabella一角，

此曲由安德魯·洛伊·韋伯作曲，Trevor Nunn作詞，

為劇中角色Grizabella演唱，表達她對昔日輝煌的憂鬱回憶，以及對被接納的渴望。

韋伯製作成一首音樂劇／古典流行抒情曲，旋律悅耳．

１９８３年１０月，伊蓮推出大碟［Stages／舞台］，為其灌錄一個新版本，由Tony Visconti製作．

 

１９８７年佩吉推出精選大碟［Memories: The Best of Elaine Paige］，便以［Memory］名之．

 

１９９８年，佩吉為［貓］音樂劇的錄影帶重新錄製此曲。這個版本保留舞台劇的歌詞，並於同年１０月登上英國單曲榜第３６名。

 

［Memory／回憶］是這部音樂劇的高潮，也是迄今為止最廣為人知的歌曲，在音樂劇之外也獲得主流成功，此後被翻唱多次。
