Knickerbocker Holiday紐約假期是一部於1938年在百老匯首演的經典音樂劇，由Maxwell Anderson麥克斯威爾·安德森編劇，Kurt Weill庫特·魏爾作曲．

故事改編自華盛頓·歐文的諷刺著作A History of New York紐約歷史，以1647年的新阿姆斯特丹，即後來的紐約為背景，表面上記述荷蘭殖民地歷史，實則強烈諷刺當時的政治權力與專制主義．

1647年的新阿姆斯特丹，貪腐且無能的市議員們正焦慮地等待新任總督Peter Stuyvesant皮特·斯泰弗森特的到來，為了迎接新總督並展現嚴明執法，議員們決定隨機找一個人來執行絞刑，藉此建立威嚴．

被選中的犧牲品是年輕活潑的Brom Broeck布羅姆·布羅克，布羅姆患有一種天生無法接受被命令的美國病，只要有人命令他做某事，他的本能反應就是反抗．

布羅姆深愛著市議員的女兒Tina Tienhoven蒂娜，但兩人的戀情遭到家族反對，正當布羅姆即將被送上绞刑台時，身裝木腿，威風凜凜的新總督斯泰弗森特正式抵達，當場赦免了布羅姆．

斯泰弗森特總督是一位手段鐵腕的獨裁者，他宣布所有權力歸他個人所有，並開始嚴格管制鎮上居民的生活．更糟糕的是，老總督看中了年輕貌美的蒂娜，決定強娶她為妻．布羅姆無法忍受總督的專制，更無法放棄蒂娜，於是開始公開煽動鎮民反抗總督的暴政，再次面臨死亡威脅，

此時，作家介入了劇情發展．歐文提醒斯泰弗森特總督：歷史將會記載他的所作所為，如果他以殘暴暴君的形象載入史冊，將會永世聲名狼藉．

顧及歷史名聲的斯泰弗森特最終選擇讓步．他放過了布羅姆，並成全了布羅姆與蒂娜的婚事，決定以一個相對寬容的管理者形象留名歷史．
