Dan Fogelberg丹佛格柏曾在自己的官方網站中表示，Same Old Lang Syne 美好往昔是一首親身經歷所寫的歌曲．

1976年，他回到故鄉伊利諾伊州的 Peoria 佩奧里亞市探望家人，在一家便利超商和舊愛不期而遇，驚喜之餘寫下了這首歌．

由於是耶誕前夕發生的故事，它後來成為美國各大廣播電台聖誕假期最常播放的應景歌曲之一．

Auld Lang Syne 昔日情景是一首非常著名的詩歌，原文用蘇格蘭文寫作，是十八世紀蘇格蘭詩人羅伯特伯恩斯（Robert Burns）根據當地父老口傳錄下的，意思是" 逝去已久的日子 "．

這首詩後來被譜了樂曲，除了原蘇格蘭文外，這首歌亦被多國譜上當地語言，在不少經典電影引用，如《魂斷藍橋》，此曲被用作為主旋律，而在《風雲人物》中，片尾眾人也合唱了此曲．
