詩人是二次大戰期間反德的地下軍分子被納粹德國的蓋世太保抓去而死在集中營。他是超現實主義的著名詩人，早期的詩因墨守超現實主義的成規比較難懂，後期衝破限制的規格，自由發揮，留下無數令人難忘的詩行，很多被編成歌曲。
讓我們躺在鋪石路上,
太陽暖過的洗過的,
塵土的芳香裏
當一天就要過去,
夜晚尚未來臨,
燈火尚未亮起,
我們將注視溪流裏
堆積雲層的倒影,
水平綫的赧顔和房頂上
出現的第一顆星星.
