One day,Ch'an Master K'ung-yeh was travelling on the road and met some bandits who wanted to rob him.Tears fell from the Master's eyes.The bandits started laughing and exclaimed,"What a coward."
Master K'ung-yeh then said ,"Don't think that I'm cryingbecause I am afraid of you . I am not even afraid of birth and death.I feel sorry for you young peoper. you are strong and healthy,yet instead of doing things that are beneficial for others, you hurt peoper by robbing them .Of course,what you are doing is not acceptable and cannot be tolerated by society .What is worse is that you will all go to hell and suffer great pain. I am so worried about you that I cannot restrain myself and am shedding tears for you.The bandits were moved and decided to give up their evil ways.
一天，禪師孔公業在道路上行駛，並會見了一些土匪，誰想搶他，眼淚落在主人的眼睛，土匪開始大笑。驚呼，“真是一個懦夫！”
不要以為我哭了，因為我怕你。我甚至不害怕出生和死亡，我覺得對不起你們年輕人。你是強大的、健康的而不是為他人有益的事情做，你剝奪了他們傷害的人。當然你在做什麼是不接受的，並可以不被容忍的社會，更糟糕的是你將去到地獄，你將去到地獄遭受巨大的疼痛，我很擔心你。我無法克制自己，泄出我為你掉眼淚，土匪們感動，決定放棄他們的惡行。
