"The sky is the limit" means the possibilities are endless or there is no limit. When you hear somebody says "the sky is your limit" to you, it means you have a great potential, which is a praise and an expectation. As a parent, you would encourage your kids by saying "lovely kids, study hard and your limit is the sky"!!!
