每年
十六世紀歐洲興起宗教改革，由馬丁路德等人領導。在這波改革中，英國脫離教宗領導的羅馬公教會，獨立出新教派，即所謂「新教」（英國國教派），另一方面，擁護教宗的則被稱作「舊教」。
當時的歐洲，宗教與政治緊密結合，一個人的信仰若不見容於政府，可能下獄甚至處死。伊莉莎白女王後期，天主教士若主持彌撒要殺頭，參加的民眾則判罰鉅款。於是，最後就有了「火藥陰謀」計畫。

福克斯因怕同屬天主教的議員也遇害，寫信警告一位議員，請他不要參加國會開幕式。該議員心生懷疑，向當局透露，士兵搜索國會地窖，事蹟敗露。
「火藥陰謀」最顯著的影響，就是英國自此與教廷徹底切割，規定所有君王都不能是天主教徒，且自動成為英國國教的大教主。英國國會新會期開會時有一個儀式，就是由警衛搜查所有地下室。

歷史上，反天主教的意識形態漸褪，十九世紀開始從比較正面角度審視火藥陰謀，同情這些人的革命意志。這種反思和當時歐洲的革命氛圍有關，放煙火活動則逐漸成為一場嘉年華，各地有各自特色，製作不同人偶。年年有一些「壞蛋」陪著福克斯「受刑」，如希特勒、柴契爾、賓拉登、海珊、小布希。
今年
四百年來，煙火節已產生質變，「大快人心」的縱火隱含不同的民怨。

As for the 2nd point, my undertanding is The sovereign is the Supreme Governor of the established Church of England, there is no called 英國國教大教主, the sovereign can not be a Catholic; the Crown's role in the Church of England is titular. The Archbishop of Canterbury, is the spiritual leader of the Church and of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The only role the King or the Queen plays in the Church of England is he or she has the power to appoint an Archbishop from the list of names recommended from the Church Commission. I really don't think being the Sovereign of Endland he or she "automatically turns to the 英國國教大教主."

Does England have 英國國教大主教 such a title? I thought the highest position/Leadership of Church of England is Archbishop of Canterbury, certainly not the King or the Queen who has to be christened under Church of England.
