人生因為不能重新來過,所以我們永遠會去想像,如果當初選擇了另一條路,如今又將會是怎樣的景況?

Robert Frost's poem: The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both.
黃樹林裡兩條小路,但我不能同時走過。
And be one traveler, long I stood,
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
孤獨旅行的我佇立良久,望著其中一條直到盡頭,看著它消失在叢林深處。
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Had worn them really about the same,
Though as for that the passing there.
於是我選擇了另一條路,也許更值得我大步前走,因為綠草如茵未被踏過,若曾經有人從這裡走過,路的狀況應會有所不同。
And both that morning equally lay,
In leaves no step had trodden black,
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
那天早晨枯葉鋪滿小路,沒有腳步踏過的痕跡,原先那條路改天再走吧!明知小路會通向另一方向,但我懷疑是否還能回到原處。
I shall be telling this with a sigh,
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood,
and I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
許多年以後,也許在某處,我會輕輕地歎息:「黃樹林裡兩條小路,而我,選擇了人跡較少的一條,使得一切變得多麼不同!」
