The Smell

  "The first working day of the week bears the name of the moon for good reason...." Reading the line on page thirty-three of Rhythms of the Week, I remembered the day... 

The day embraced by the smell of food and the smell of you... 

  The fingers kissed the page, "...Interest in what's around us, affirming things previously alien, opens up new sources of inspiration. Daily food intake forms the basis for life, for growth. In the same way, external stimulus and the new ideas we gain from it enrich our inner life and encourage spiritual growth." Your  mind and thoughts charmed the night.  

  We need to take it slow. Just as Goethe wrote to Gottfried in a letter, "What is foreign to us has a life that is foreign, and we cannot fully appropriate it if we welcome it immediately and gladly like a familiar guest." Losing sight of you, I cast a smile in the moonlight. Following the pace of the heartbeats, you cheered the glittering road with your gentle footsteps.
