【Golden Words from Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu】 His Holiness Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu Expounded the definition of 『Five types of Mithya-jiva (Illicit/wrong Livelihood)』?

The five wrong livelihood (Mithyajiva):

1. Desmonstration of singular/special capabilities ＞ Always like to express themselves that they are different to others, love to demonstrate a lot, Buddha think this is very hypocritical. Therefore perculiar performance and hypocrisy are wrong livelihood.

2. Promotion or exaggeration of one's own merit ＞ always commended of one's own merit is the greatest,  that is an illicit way of livelihood, do not expect returns or merits when doing good deed.

3. Fortune telling ＞ Use of psychic abilities to determine the good and bad fortune for others, mainly to introduce someone to perform good deeds and into buddhism as a starting point is good. But if one did not embarked on the right path, it is a wrong livelihood.

4. Use of power or threatening means to make people to obey or follow ＞ People who are rich, has power and is famous, is often afraid of being not known, cause others' dissatisfaction due to always have a conversation that involves money is a wrong livelihood.

5. Use of improper interest ＞ Always emphasize own self has attain enlightenment, and must not publicize in an exaggerated and often misleading manner, overboard abhijna means one has been possessed by the devil.

五種邪命：

1.現奇特相＞始終喜歡表現自己跟別人不同,很愛現,佛認為這是很虛偽。因此奇特的表現及虛偽的表現,都是不好的正命。

2.自說功德＞經常表揚自己的功德很大的,那是一種邪命,做善事要不存功德想。

3.算命占相＞替人占相吉凶,主要是引人向善進入佛門為出發點是好的。但如果沒有走上正道的,那就是邪命。

4.高聲現威＞有錢有權有名的人,怕人不知道他,時常講話站在錢堆上說話引人不滿就是邪命。

5.說得利益＞老說自己以得道,不是嘴巴講的天花亂墜,神通太過火就是走火入魔。
