1. Vocabulary

Learn(商業用語): get inform 很高興得知

Syllogism(n.): Logic. an argument the conclusion of which is

supported by two premises, of which one (major premise) contains

the term (major term) that is the predicate of the conclusion, and

the other (minor premise) contains the term (minor term) that is the

subject of the conclusion; common to both premises is a term

(middle term) that is excluded from the conclusion. A typical form is

“All A is C; all B is A; therefore all B is C.”.

 

Allusion(n.): a passing or casual reference; an incidental mention

of something, either directly or by implication.

Allude(v.): to refer casually or indirectly.

Matrimony(n.): the state of being married; marriage.

 

Aero- : a combining form meaning “air,” used in formation of

compound words.

For example:

Aerodrome: a landing area, esp for private aircraft, that is usually

smaller than an airport.

 

 

2. Aegean sea

The Aegean Sea is an elongated embayment of the Mediterranean

Sea located between the Greek and Anatolian peninsulas, i.e.,

between the mainlands of Greece and Turkey.

 

 

3. Aegeus

In Greek mythology, Aegeus or Aegeas, was an archaic figure in

the founding myth of Athens. The "goat-man" who gave his name

to the Aegean Sea was, next to Poseidon, the father of Theseus,

the founder of Athenian institutions and one of the kings of Athens.

 

 

4. Cupid

In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupido, meaning "desire") is

the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. He is often

portrayed as the son of the love goddess Venus and the war god Mars,

and is known in Latin also as Amor ("Love"). His Greek counterpart

is Eros.

5. Amaryllis(連結)

Love-in-idleness is another name for the mid-western wild pansy

(Viola tricolor), which naturally occurs in white and purple colors.

According to Roman mythology, the wild pansy turned into the

Love-in-idleness as Cupid shot one of his arrows at the imperial

votaress, but missed and instead struck it. As Cupid is the god of desire,

affection and erotic love, the flower’s juice received the trait, to act

as a love potion.

 

 

6. Eros

In Greek mythology, Eros was the Greek god of love. His Roman

counterpart was Cupid ("desire"). Some myths make him a primordial

god, while in other myths, he is the son of Aphrodite. He was one of

the winged love gods, Erotes.

 

 

7. Tom Stoppard

Sir Tom Stoppard OM CBE FRSL is a British playwright and

screenwriter, knighted in 1997. He has written prolifically for TV,

radio, film and stage, finding prominence with plays. He co-wrote

the screenplays for Brazil, The Russia House, and Shakespeare in

Love, and has received one Academy Award and four Tony Awards.

Stoppard has been a key playwright of the National Theatre and is

one of the most internationally performed dramatists of his generation.
