A formidable adversary can make me become stronger.

Though ill for most of her life, physical frailty never stopped her from working.


3.grunt (v.) : to make a low rough noise

17.jaw (n.) : the lower part of your face which moves when you open your             /dʒɔː/        mouth.

18.neck (n.) :  the part of the body which joins the head to the shoulders

He had the thickest neck I'd ever seen.


19.sideways (adv.) : in a direction to the left or right, not forwards or                  /ˈsaɪd.weɪz/              backwards.

The fence is leaning sideways.


20.trap (n.) : a device or hole for catching animals or people and preventing

   /træp/        their escape.

The fox got its foot caught in a trap.


21.come clean (ph.) : to tell the truth about something that you have been                                           keeping secret.

I thought it was time to come clean with everybody about what I'd been doing.


22.despair (v.) :the feeling that there is no hope and that you can do nothing to  /dɪˈspeər/         improve a difficult or worrying situation.

They're in the depths of despair over/about the money they've lost.


23.growl (v.) : to make a low rough sound, usually in anger

The dog growled at her and snapped at her ankles.


24.outlast (v.) : to live or exist, or to stay energetic and determined, longer

The queen outlasted all her children.
