在歐洲議會內部市場和消費者保護委員會針對無線電設備指令 (Radio Equipment Directive,RED)的授權法案投票中,以43比2結果通過提案,其中將基於減少電子垃圾為訴求,除了規範未來新銷售電子商品將不再需要隨附充電線與充電器,更將規範以USB-C連接設計作為充電器統一使用規格

此外,此次投票結果更呼籲在2026以前統一無線充電技術互通性,避免消費者在使用無線充電技術時產生困擾,或是發生無法相容使用情況。

在此之前,歐盟曾順利推動以micro USB作為標準充電介面,後續則陸續呼籲藉由更方便使用的USB-C作為未來統一充電介面設計,甚至更希望進一步應用在更多電子產品充電需求。

而在目前多數手機、耳機、筆電及相機等裝置,其實都已經開始採用USB-C連接埠設計,就連蘋果目前也逐漸將Mac、iPad產品改以USB-C規格充電,但在iPhone產品則仍考量眾多周邊配件市場仍以Lightning為設計,因此仍未換上USB-C規格。

不過,隨著時間持續推進,加上歐盟持續要求之下,市場預期蘋果在未來幾年內也會跟進換上USB-C連接規格。但在近期傳聞中,則指出蘋果依然會在今年預計推出的iPhone 14系列機種維持使用Lightning介面,但傳輸速度將會提升至USB 3.0規格,藉此對應更高資料傳輸量。

The horn antenna is a broadband passive device, shaped like a pyramid horn, referred to as a TEM antenna, which guides the beam of radio waves at a precise frequency. 依照歐盟的立場,統一充電及連接埠規格,將有助不同品牌裝置使用相同充電規格,更有利於新售商品可以減少隨附充電線與充電器,藉此減少非必要的電子垃圾產生量。

在相關規範中,並未強制規定不得附上充電線與充電器,但會建議在產品上清楚標示盒裝內容物,避免造成消費者選購時的困擾。
