George Michael says sorry after crack cocaine arrest in Hampstead Heath toilet block

By Richard Simpson

Last updated at 1:45 AM on 22nd September 2008

George Michael has apologised to his fans after being arrested in a public toilet for possessing crack cocaine and cannabis.

He was held after a tip-off from an attendant at underground lavatories on Hampstead Heath, North London, on Friday.

When officers arrived the 45-year-old singer was still in the toilet and police found the drugs on him. He was taken to a police station where he admitted possession of class A and C drugs.

Police decided not to refer the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service for possible further action, saying the singer had shown 'remorse'.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: 'I can confirm that a 45- year- old man was arrested on September 19 on suspicion of possession of drugs in the Hampstead Heath area.

'He was taken to a North London police station where he received a caution for possession of class A and class C drugs.

'He has been released and there will be no further action.'

In a statement last night, Michael apologised for 'screwing up again' and promised to 'sort myself out'.

Michael, whose pop career has earned him a fortune put at £70million, is a well-known face on Hampstead Heath.

The toilets are a few miles from his £5million Highgate mansion and are a known location for ' cottaging', where gay men meet for anonymous sex.

Inside the toilets there is a 'no loitering' sign intended to discourage the activity.

The incident is the latest scandal surrounding the singer since his arrest in a toilet in America ten years ago.

He had spent years refusing to comment on his sexuality, but that changed in 1998 after he was arrested in public toilets in Beverly Hills for engaging in a lewd act. He was fined £450 by a Los Angeles court and ordered to do community service.

The incident forced him to disclose his homosexuality and his relationship with American Kenny Goss.

In October 2006 he was found slumped over the wheel of his car. And in May last year he pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs and was banned from driving for two years.

Tests showed anti-depressants, cannabis and the illegal 'dance drug' GHB in his blood.

The singer was released from custody several hours after having been cautioned for possession of drugs on Friday. Police have said that no further action will be taken.  Pic Mick Gell.

Two years ago, pictures were published showing Michael emerging from bushes on Hampadded-stead Heath after being found in the middle of the night with another man.

Despite his statement last night, there was no sign of Michael at his home. Mr Goss, who left the mansion briefly before returning with cups of takeaway coffee, said 'Yes' when asked if he knew where the singer was, but refused to reveal where.

A month ago Michael played a series of farewell concerts, saying he wanted a 'quieter life'. He 'I'm an old man, I really need to sit down.'

Last year, in a candid interview for BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, he talked openly about his drug use.

He said: 'I'm a happy man and I can afford my marijuana so that's not a problem.'

And in another interview, with Sir Michael Parkinson, he confessed that he was fighting an addiction to prescription drugs.

He also said that he thought smoking marijuana was fine, but regretted being filmed using the drug for ITV arts programme The South Bank Show.

He recently admitted that his late twenties had been a depressing time after he lost his partner, Anselmo Feleppa, to HIV and his mother died some time later.

He said: 'I had my very first relationship at 27 because I really had not actually come to terms with my sexuality until I was 24.

'I lost my partner to HIV then it took about three years to grieve; then after that I lost my mother. I felt almost like I was cursed.'

George Michael Cautioned for Drug Bust

UPDATE: Without directly mentioning his run-in with police Friday, George Michael released this statement via his publicist:

"I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I'll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them."

Unfortunately, touring isn't the only familiar activity George Michael appears to be engaging in these days.

The British pop star was given a warning—what the Brits call a "caution"—Friday for possessing Class A and Class C drugs after being arrested in a public toilet in the Hampstead Heath area, according to London's Metropolitan Police.

Authorities do not reveal the identity of arrestees but a police rep confirmed that a 45-year-old male had been picked up Sept. 19 on suspicion of drug possession.

Per the U.K.'s Misuse of Drugs Act, Class A includes painkillers such as oxycodone, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, while Class C comprises marijuana and other cannabis-related products.

Michael, who has spoken candidly in recent years about pot use, wrapped up his first tour in 15 years last month, saying it was the last time he would play arenas and stadiums.

George Michael apologises for latest drugs bust

Reuters - Sunday, September 21 07:32 pm

LONDON (Reuters) - Pop star George Michael apologised to fans on Sunday and promised to "sort himself out" after his arrest and caution by police for possession of drugs.

Michael, 45, was arrested in a public toilet in the north London suburb of Hampstead on Friday afternoon after he was found in possession of crack cocaine and cannabis, according to the Sunday People newspaper.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old man in north London and his caution for possession of class A and class C drugs.

"I want to apologise to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I'll sort myself out," said Michael in a statement issued through his publicist. "And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them."

The multi-millionaire singer has had several brushes with the law over his recreational drug use.

In 2006 he was found slumped over the wheel of his car in London and later admitted driving while unfit due to drugs. He was banned from driving for two years and sentenced to 100 hours of community service.

In an interview on BBC radio last year, Michael discussed his drug problems, saying he was aware that he smoked too much marijuana and was trying to reduce his consumption.

"In a strange way I've spent the last 15 to 20 years trying to derail my own career, but it never seems to suffer," he said.

"I suffer like crazy. I've suffered bereavements and public humiliations, but my career always seems to right itself like a plastic duck in the bath."

Michael has sold nearly 100 million records, winning a global fan base with hits such as "Careless Whisper" and "Faith". He is estimated to be worth as much as $200 million (109 million pounds).

Earlier this year he signed up for a no-holds-barred autobiography which he intends to write entirely by himself.

Michael ended a nearly two-year world tour in August this year with two performances in Earls Court. He has hinted that he may not tour again.

The former lead singer with 1980s band Wham! ended years of speculation about his sexuality by announcing he was gay after he was arrested in 1998 for engaging in a "lewd act" in a Los Angeles public toilet.

是否壓力太大,你飛去英國安慰他好了 cc

鳴鳴鳴...我的確很傷心

因為...吸毒...會損害他的身體健康...
