Something About the Fireworks too

Hubby and I were watching Michael Phelps winning his 8th gold medal in men's 400m medley last night. We started talking about the "controversy" of the fireworks display in the opening ceremony.

"...So what it (the fireworks) was computer enhanced?" Hubby said, "a lot of Hollywood movies were made this way. Why can't the Chinese government do the same thing?"

WHAT? I was STUNNED. There is no analogy between an Olympic opening ceremony and a Hollywood movie. NO WAY.

"OK, my thing is...If its digitalized, say it like it is. Not until all the media was asking about it, then you say its for the best visual results and what not. It's NOT ethical." I said.

Its NOTHING like you knew you were watching The Lord of the Rings.

"What ethical? It was a SHOW on TV. Do you believe everything you see on TV?" he asked.

HUH? GOOD QUESTION.

"But it was an OFFICIAL Olympic opening. You did not expect to see something digitalized. It was supposed to be a LIVE broadcast." I said. "Its like cheating the audience."

"...If they can 'cheat' on LIVE broadcast. It makes you wonder how much percentage of truth is there when they say their human rights are improving. Or when they said they did not use disproportional military force in Tibet." I continued.

"Human rights?" Hubby started raising his voice too. "Well, you think America can send their troops to Iraq for 'nuclear weapons' and the government is doing the good for all Americans. And the Chinese can not digitalize the fireworks and replace the ugly little girl?"

SAY WHAT? HMM...

"It was THEIR show. They do whatever they want." Hubby concluded.

Then I turned away back to TV watching Phelps doing butterfly. For the first time I was speechless.
