Traffic Safety
Most people consider their cars as wonderful and essential parts of their lives. We use them every day to go to work, to school, to a neighboring state for vacation, or even to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. But, what most people often forget is that even though cars seem like fantastic conveniences that allow us to go to places that would otherwise be inaccessible, cars can also be dangerous and sometimes even deadly if we are not careful.
Let’s first look at what you can do when you are walking to stay out of harm’s way. When crossing a street, always cross at the corner and never in the middle of the block. Even if there is a pedestrian signal or a crosswalk, be sure to look left, right and then left again to make sure that there is no oncoming traffic before you take your first across the street. If there is a pedestrian signal, cross the street only when the signal tells you that it is safe to do so. Never cross when the light is red! Also, if you see a car coming, don’t cross until it comes to complete stop. Even though you may think that a driver has seen you and is going to stop, always wait until the car first stops completely just to be safe.
