一

When We Two Parted

When we two parted

In silence and tears,

Half broken-hearted

To sever for years,

Pale grew thy cheek and cold,

Colder thy kiss;

Truly that hour foretold

Sorrow to this.

The dew of the morning

Sunk chill on my brow -

It felt like the warning

Of what I feel now.

Thy vows are all broken,

And light is thy fame;

I hear thy name spoken,

And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,

A knell to mine ear;

A shudder comes o』er me -

Why wert thou so dear?

They know not I knew thee,

Who knew thee too well-

Long, long shall I rue thee,

Too deeply to tell.

In secret we met -

In silence I grieve,

That thy heart could forget,

Thy spirit deceive.

If I should meet thee

After long years,

How should I greet thee?-

With silence and tears.

 

    拜倫(George Gordon Byron, 1788－1824)，英國偉大的浪漫主義詩人，世襲男爵，人稱「拜倫勳爵(Lord Byron)」。跟濟慈相似，拜倫也是一位短命的天才詩人，僅活了36歲。

歌德如此評價拜倫的詩：「是徹底的天才的作品——憤世到了不顧一切的辛辣程度，溫柔到了優美感情的最纖細動人的地步。」

斷章

你站在橋上看風景，

看風景的人在樓上看你。

明月裝飾了你的窗子，

你裝飾了別人的夢。

    卞之琳曾是徐志摩的學生，被公認為新文化運動中重要的詩歌流派「新月派」的代表詩人。

    創作於1935年的詩歌《斷章》是他不朽的代表作：

When you watch the scenery from the bridge,

The sightseer watches you from the balcony.
