Children's Literature- (Week seven) Miss Potter

1.         Do you like the story? Why or why not?

Yes, I really like the movie Miss Potter and its story. Not only Beatrix Potter can stick to her dream on drawing, but also the scenery and music in the movie.

2.         Miss Potter佳句精選

Ø  Mind took me here where I belong.

照樣造句:Loss gave me chance which I learn.

Ø  It make me happy. (買下湖區,保護她靈感來源之地。)

3.         The Lake District

Ø  The Lake District is a mountainous region in North West England. It is a popular holiday destination.

Ø  Beatrix Potter was a key figure in saving the traditional Herdwick sheep from extinction. With the profits from her publications, she bought Hill Top farm, other hill farms and estates in the Lake District.

Ø  It is famous for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells) and its associations with the early 19th century writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.

Ø  Lake Poets

ü  William Wordsworth was the most famous and influential.

< I wandered lonely as a cloud >

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze

ü  Charles Lamb was an English writer and essayist, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shakespeare.

4.         ID: Dystopia

Ø  What is that?

A dystopia is a community or society that is undesirable or frightening. It’s an antonym of utopia. "Utopia" is the blueprint for an ideal society with no crime or poverty.

Ø  Example:

ü  The Hunger Games: Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death.

ü  The Maze Runner: Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "Runners" for a shot at escape.

ü  Divergent: In a futuristic dystopian Chicago, the society is divided into five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intellectual). When children reach the age of 16, they undergo a serum-induced psychological test which indicates their best-suited faction.

ü  Animal Farm: Old Major, the old boar on the Manor Farm, summons the animals on the farm together for a meeting, during which he refers to humans as "enemies" and teaches the animals a revolutionary song called Beasts of England. When Major dies, two young pigs assume command and consider it a duty to prepare for the Rebellion. The animals revolt and drive the drunken and irresponsible farmer Mr. Jones from the farm, renaming it "Animal Farm". They adopt Seven Commandments of Animalism, the most important of which is, "All animals are equal."
