DUNCAN, OK (KSWO) -Spring is here and that means prom season is just around the corner, but one Duncan church wants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to attend in style.
The First Baptist Church in Duncan is offering prom dresses, shoes, purses and jewelry pieces that anyone can come in and borrow for their big day.
They have hundreds of dresses, in a variety of colors and sizes, to make sure they have a dress for everyone. All of the dresses were donated from members of the community, so borrowing them is completely free. The church even has a partnership with a local dry cleaner so you won't even have to pay to have it cleaned before you return in.
Kendall Diaz is in charge of the prom dress program at First Baptist Church and she loves being able to make some of the local girls' dreams of going to prom come true.
"Prom is a big deal, it is. And getting the right dress is a big deal and sometimes you just don't have the funds to make that happen. We're able to provide the service to make sure people get to have prom, have something they can enjoy and have the memories from that," Diaz said.
The church does whatever it can to get girls ready for the prom and really only has one goal going in.
The First Baptist Church wants to make sure that every girl who wants to go to prom has the opportunity to. You just walk in, try on one of their hundreds of dresses, grab some shoes and a purse that match, grab some earrings and you'll be ready to go in no time.
Diaz says none of this would be possible without the community donating dresses, but says that isn't something new for the Duncan community.

"It doesn't really surprise me, because our community comes together a lot just to donate things for people in need," Diaz said.
Diaz says being able to join the community in giving means a lot to her.
"It just makes me feel so happy to be able to help them in that way, and I send a lot of girls home happy with finding a dress and the moms too. It kind of takes a burden off them as well and that's so great for me," Diaz said.
Diaz says if anyone at home has their old dress just sitting in the closet, she hopes they'll pay it forward and donate it to make someone else's dreams come true.
The church, located at 901 W Ash Ave, will host an event for girls to borrow dresses Saturday, April 2, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
If anyone wants to donate or borrow a dress, they can call the church at 580-252-5885 to set up an appointment.
