Detective fiction is a sub-genre  of  crime fiction and mystery    fiction in which an investigator  or a detective - either professional or  amateur  -  investigates a  crime , often murder.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Scottish authorand physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a graduate of the University of  Edinburgh Medical School. A Londonbased "consulting detective" whose abilitie sborder on the fantastic, Holmes is famous for his astute  logical reasoning,se of forensic scien his ability to adopt almost  any disguise, and his  uce skills to solve difficult cases.

Thomas Hardy

Jude the Obscure, the last completed of Thomas Hardy's novels, began as a     magazine serial and was first published in book form in 1895. Its hero, Jude           Fawley, is a working-class young man who dreams of becoming a scholar. The         other main character is his cousin, Sue Bridehead, who is also his central love     interest. The themes in the novel revolve around issues of class, education,religion         and marriage.
