[Second Episode]

S-11 Day Scene
Time: Sunny Day
Location: On the Peninsula, Small Bay
Characters: Chen Dongping, Guangnan, Yunying, Lele

▲ Guangnan and his younger sister accompany Dongping to a nearby peninsula for an outing. Seagulls and more than a dozen kinds of water birds inhabit the island. Dongping is not unfamiliar with these water birds; on Guishan Island, Dongping is their neighbor.

▲ The three youths sit on a huge rock at the cape, comfortably enjoying the gentle sea breeze. Guangnan wants to take this opportunity to bring up his fathers concerns to Dongping, so he takes the initiative to start a conversation.

Guangnan: "Dongping, after you leave here, where do you plan to go?"

▲ Dongping knocks a small stone loose. It clatters and rolls down the cliff. Some of the water birds are startled and fly out from the cliff face.

Dongping: "I wander everywhere. I am used to making a living at sea. Perhaps I will travel around and take a look, and then return to the deserted island. Unless there is a fishing boat, otherwise I cannot return to Gulangyu."

Yunying: (with an innocent look on her face) "Dongping, are you still going back to Guishan Island? You live there all alone by yourself, with no friends to talk with you. Wont you feel very lonely?"

Dongping: (shrugging his shoulders) "You get used to it. The seabirds and dolphins there are all my friends."

Guangnan: "You can consider going east, heading to Kavalan, or going south, passing through the Lelang people, the Taokas tribe, the Papora tribe, and going to the Siraya tribe in the south. According to my father, that area is a flat and vast grassland. On the grassland, sambar deer, muntjacs, goats, and wild boars roam about in groups at ease, just like a fairyland on earth."

Dongping: "I do not plan to go to such a distant place. I must wait on the deserted island for my uncle to come back and pick me up."

▲ Seeing the situation, Guangnan has no choice but to tell Dongping everything exactly as it is.

Guangnan: "I will tell you the truth, all right? Recently we Basay people have provoked some pirates... My father does not want to implicate you, so he dares not keep you here as a guest."

Yunying: (indignantly) "Why did Father not tell me such important news?"

Guangnan: "You are a girl. Protecting the village is the responsibility of us men. Father only told me yesterday as well."

Dongping: (V.O.) "There is a batch of weapons on the island. Perhaps now they can be of use."

Dongping: "In the past, when my uncle and I fished at sea, we also encountered pirates robbing us. All the valuable things on the boat were taken away. We did not dare resist. Uncle said, As long as the green hills remain, there will be no lack of firewood. Those pirates have long guns and short guns in their hands. It is indeed very difficult for you to drive them back and recover Jilong Islet."

Guangnan: (indignantly) "Must we submit to them and pay an annual tribute of ten thousand deerskins?"

Dongping: "If you unite together, perhaps you can drive them back. But I think you will also have to pay a considerable price, wont you?"

Guangnan: "Yes! But we cannot just let the pirates take whatever they want, can we?"

Dongping: "All right then. On Guishan Island I accidentally discovered a batch of weapons. This batch of weapons may have been left there for many years. I do not know whether they can still be used. Perhaps they were left behind by pirates in the past."

Guangnan: (his eyes suddenly lighting up) "A batch of weapons?"

▲ Dongping walks very quickly and arrives at a small bay. Then he takes out the large conch shell and blows it. Before long, Lele appears.

S-12 Day Scene

▲ Dongping and Lele return to the shore of Guishan Island.

Dongping: (shaking his head and sighing) "Humans are animals full of selfishness and insatiable desires. That is why they will stop at nothing to fight one another, I suppose."

Lele: "Perhaps it is as you say. Humans truly are very terrible and very hateful animals. But you are the exception. You have a kind and contented heart. Therefore, in the days to come, our dolphin clan will help you wholeheartedly. In the future, you will marry Yunying as your wife. After you have children, you will become the son-in-law of the chief of Jinbaoli Village. Later on, you will rise even higher and become the actual leader of the Basay people."

Dongping: "Really? In my heart, I only want to return to my hometown of Gulangyu as soon as possible."

Lele: "Young Master from Gulangyu, do not go back. This is the place where you will take root and develop in the future. You may as well believe Leles prophecy."

Dongping: "Lele, when I discovered that batch of weapons, I unexpectedly found a batch of golden treasure in the same cave. I want to ask you and your friends to help me find a hidden place and transport that treasure there for storage."

▲ After Guangnan and his sister return home, Guangnan tells his parents about the batch of weapons hidden on the island.

Guangnan: "... Dongping wants us to go to the island three days from now to take away that batch of weapons."

Melissa: "Could it be that child Dongping is making fools of us?"

Yalati: "He probably would not joke with us about something like this. Whether it is true or false, we will know once we reach the island."

Yunying: "Dongping has no reason to trick us! I believe what he said."

▲ Dongping arranges that batch of weapons neatly on the beach. Yalati, Wula, and several crewmen inspect the batch of weapons.

Wula: "These are all Mauser rifles manufactured by foreigners. The outside of the rifles is wrapped in oilcloth. They were deliberately sealed up, so they should still be usable, right? As for those swords and weapons, their appearance and style are very similar to those currently used by the Red-Haired peoples navy. Judging from these clues, this batch of weapons should have been left behind by the Red-Haired people."

▲ The crewmen beside him and the warrior Sangmiji all nod in agreement.

▲ Yunying is sewing clothes in the bedroom when her mother Melissa walks in.

Melissa: (smiling) "My precious daughter, it is very rare to see you sewing clothes."

Yunying: "Mother, I plan to make a deerskin outfit for Dongping."

Melissa: (curious) "Oh? You have never made a leather outfit for your brother before. Why are you being so proactive toward Dongping this time?"

Yunying: "I cannot bear to see him dressed in such ragged clothes."

Melissa: (suspicious) "Is that really the only reason? I was young once too. How could I not know what you are thinking? Tell Mother the truth. Have you fallen for Dongping?"

Yunying: "Mother, what is liking someone? I think Dongping is very kind and easy to get along with, so I want to make a leather outfit for him."

Although I am the chief of the village, you should know very clearly that on many important matters, I respect the decisions your father makes. ▲ The preparations before the assault operation code-named "Night Eagle" are being carried out intensively in Jinbao Village of the Basay people.

▲ Torches are lit inside and outside the assembly hall of the meeting house. Under the firelight, the shadows of the people and the trees overlap one another.

▲ Wula leads more than one hundred warriors in a tight guard. Around the meeting house, within a radius of several dozen zhang, stand warriors holding blades, spears, and bows and arrows.

Yalati: "This assault operation concerns the fate of us Ketagalan people. No matter what sacrifices are required, we must take back Jilong Islet and our traditional fishing grounds from the pirates."

Damiya: "The Basay people and our Lelang people depend upon each other like lips and teeth. Since the Basay people are threatened by pirates, of course the villages of our Lelang people will not stand idly by."

Xiulan: "Elder Sister Damiya, thank you to all the villages of the Lelang people for standing by us loyally. With all of you giving the Basay people such great assistance, we will certainly be able to defeat the pirates and recover Jilong Islet."

Yalati: "This little hero, Chen Dongping, has not only provided us with a batch of weapons, tonight he and his dolphin friends will also lead our assault operation."

▲ Chen Dongping rises to his feet and bows to the chiefs and warriors of the villages.

Damiya: "This child appears calm and composed. Truly, a hero emerges in youth."

Characters: Chen Dongping, Yalati, Wula, Sangmiji, Hadamu, Fujiki Ichiro (Pirate Leader), Hachiman Daibu (Pirate Operations Officer), Sakuragi Hiromitsu (Pirate Staff Officer), Several Dozens of Yellow-Headband Warriors from the Villages, Several Hundred Villagers from the Villages, Several Hundred Pirates

▲ On this night, the fog is thick and visibility on the sea is very low. It is the perfect opportunity to launch Operation "Night Eagle."

▲ Led by Chen Dongping and the pod of dolphins, the vanguard led by Hadamu has already set out first.

▲ The supporting forces from every route board wooden ships one after another and sail away from the shore toward the dark northern sea.

▲ The three men seize their weapons and, surrounded by their guards, leave the cave hall.

▲ Although the pirates are normally well-trained, when faced with this sudden turn of events, they too lose their composure.

▲ Reinforcements from every route rush ashore one after another and engage the pirates in close combat, carrying out close-range shooting and fighting with swords and spears. After half a shichen of fierce fighting, the pirates know that the situation is hopeless. The remaining men, surrounded on all sides, one after another throw down their weapons and surrender.

▲ After the vanguards demolition operation begins, Dongping and the dolphins remain at the dock. Fujiki and the other two leaders lead a small group of defeated pirates and want to break through by taking small boats from the dock area.

Dongping: "Lele, do not let the pirates climb onto the boats!"

▲ Upon hearing Leles command, the dolphins leap out of the water one after another and knock the pirate soldiers into the sea.

Hiromitsu: (pointing with his finger) "Capture that child! He is the one commanding the dolphins."

▲ Several pirate soldiers jump into the water and seize Dongping.

▲ The pirates take Dongping hostage. Under Leles leadership, the dolphins surround the small boat and do not let it leave.

Ichiro: "Back off, back off! You beasts!"

Lele: "Huanhuan, Dongping is in danger. I am going to save him!"

Huanhuan: "Big Brother, they have weapons in their hands. You must be careful!"

▲ In his anxiety, Lele disregards his own safety. He throws himself forward and knocks the pirate leader Fujiki Ichiro and Dongping off the small boat. At that very instant, Leles abdomen is slashed open with a very deep and very long wound by Fujikis long sword. Dongping falls into the sea and is quickly lifted up by the dolphins, but Lele bleeds without stopping and quickly loses consciousness.

Dongping: "Lele, pull yourself together! Lele, Lele!"

▲ Dongping holds Lele and cries bitterly. Never before has he been so heartbroken.

▲ Leles mother, Meimei, forcibly suppresses her own grief and instead comforts Dongping.

Meimei: "Young Master Dongping, you were the one who saved Leles life. Now he has sacrificed himself in order to save you. It can be considered that his wish has been fulfilled."

▲ Hadamu leads a group of warriors and arrives at the dock in time, engaging in fierce hand-to-hand combat in the shallow water with the pirate leaders.

Hadamu: "Brothers, do not let a single pirate escape!"

▲ Operation "Night Eagle" achieves a glorious victory. The pirate leaders and important officers are all captured.

Yalati: "Hadamu, lock this group of pirate leaders in the dungeon and guard them strictly. After daybreak, escort them back to Jinbaoli."

Hadamu: "Yes, Chief."

▲ The warrior forces from every route continue to search for the remaining pirate stragglers hiding on the island.

S-18 Day Scene
Time: Dawn
Location: On Jilong Islet, Cave Hall
Characters: Chen Dongping, Yalati, Wula, Sangmiji, Hadamu, Chiefs of the Villages, Several Dozens of Yellow-Headband Warriors from the Villages, Several Hundred Villagers from the Villages

▲ At dawn, accompanied by more than one hundred dolphins, Dongping personally buries Lele on the beach. Yalati and Wula come to pay their respects to the dolphins and mourn for Lele.

Yalati: "Lele was a brave warrior. Our Basay people will remember him forever!"

▲ Afterwards, inside the cave hall, Yalati and the Yellow-Headband warriors leading each route are holding a meeting.

Yalati: "The key to victory in this assault operation lay in the demolition carried out by the vanguard. In this regard, we owe much to the timely help of Chen Dongping and his dolphin friends."

Hadamu: "Yes, Chief."

Yalati: "Wula, you and the warriors of the Lelang villages will escort this group of pirate leaders back to our village, and at a later date publicly interrogate and try them."

Wula: "Yes, Chief."

Yalati: "Dongping, thanks to the great help given by you and your dolphin friends, come back with me to Jinbaoli Village. I will fulfill my promise and let you and my daughter Yunying marry."

Dongping: "No. I want to leave here and return to Guishan Island."

Yalati: "Dongping, are you truly not coming back with me?"

Dongping: "I only want to return to Guishan Island."

Yalati: "Very well. I respect your decision. I will ask Wula to regularly deliver food and daily necessities to you."

Dongping: "Thank you for your kindness. There is no lack of food on Guishan Island."

▲ By the time they returned to the deserted island, it was already close to noon. In the shallow bay area on the north shore, Dongping sat blankly on a large rock. That was the place where he and Lele had first become connected. Dongping no longer shed tears. In his mind, Leles lively and healthy figure clearly appeared, and he felt that Lele had never left him.

▲ At this moment, the brother and sister Guangnan and Yunying appeared.

Guangnan: "Dongping, come back to the village with us."

Dongping: (indifferently) "I want to stay here. For the time being, I have no plans to leave."

Yunying: "Dongping, my father asked us to persuade you to come back. You are the hero of our Basay tribe. We need you!"

Dongping: "Guangnan, Yunying, wait for some time to pass, alright? I will return to the village to find you."

▲ Seeing the situation, the Guangnan siblings knew that Dongping would not leave with them.
