前幾天跟溫哥華朋友聊天時,朋友提及一首詩,名為The Road Not Taken,出自美國著名詩人Robert Frost,一讀就令我深深著迷。這是Robert Frost最有名的一首詩,節奏鮮明、意境優美,Robert擅長用平鋪直述的文字表達深層的哲理,這首詩就是其代表作之一。人的一生,如詩中的旅人,難免遇見岔路而猶豫不決,做抉擇時的一念間,取捨與得失,也許都將改變往後的一切。

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
