Macronix International has reported NT$2.70 billion (US$84.5 million) in August 2010 revenues, up 10.3% sequentially to beat market expectations. Revenues from January through August totaled NT$19.047 billion, increasing by 22% from a year ago.

Macronix saw almost 40% of its sales come from shipments of mask ROM in August, compared to about 22% in July, according company data.

Despite a slowdown in demand for NOR flash chips, Macronix has seen a ramp-up in orders from Nintendo, industry sources have commented. Rising sales of its mask ROM products will help sustain revenues through October, the sources indicated.

Macronix's third-quarter revenues are expected to meet the company's guidance, growing 9-12% from the second quarter, the sources said.

In other news, Winbond Electronics has reported revenues of NT$2.92 billion for August, down 2.7% on month. In addition to NOR flash, Winbond also makes specialty DRAM (SDRAM), mobile RAM and GDDR chips.
