（二）德州大哥的信

I have thought about sending this one to you, right after I left and before your arrival in early November at big-D. It spoke my mind there and then; it fills my heart here and now. He (Su Dong-po) has been my all-time favorite Chinese man of letter and I have personally thought this particular verse of his, contrary to what many other think, the crème de la crème of his.

One dream I had for three these years alas
The country path to Wu-Middle, stroll them I want
Thereby, sending my faithful retriever,
As a company to you, also a reminder from me:

Ere you call out to the barge at Song-Jian cross
Try not stir up the cranes that repose yonder
Where these four bridges were,
Where I had found myself back and forth

Watching the day end as the spring edging down
As watched by watcher of Won-Chuan pictorial
Remind me yes, the elegance that once uttered
The Chancellor Wong, floating and noble.

To there I shall be ending, a promise divine
Made when I’ll be leaving, decided by my own

‘Wish me then, so dear will be
The shirt I wear would still hath been,
Off hands of Shao-Mann,
And thread by thread weaved
Was once intimately sprinkled
By the Lake Hsi-Hu's rain-mist.’

尺素遲來道君意
解謎須覓青玉案
東坡幾時畜黃犬？
吳中路遠，德州何來西湖雨？

去歲南遊暫棲止
鐵翼梟鳴，人迷津渡
鷗鷺不翔達拉斯
難記取，四橋蹤跡

吾豈不慕蘊藉意
可奈是，德州已遠離
紅酒牛肉誰知味
空伴隨，西蠻市語

廿載論交在胸臆
來來走走人生路
且留春衫，他日踏沙行
話參商，帶酒衝破黃昏雨

吳中：指蘇州

黃犬：典出晉書陸機傳，“機有駿犬，名曰黃耳，甚愛之。既而羈寓京師，久無家問，笑語犬曰：「我家絕無書信，汝能齎書取消息不？」犬搖尾作聲。機乃為書以竹筒盛之而繫其頸，犬尋路南走，遂至其家，得報還洛。其後因以為常。”

輞川圖：王維所畫。“味摩詰之詩，詩中有畫；觀摩詰之畫，畫中有詩，”東坡之評也。
