請問規矩是用來做什麼啊？（律己）

Can I inquire why we need rules and regulations?

(To discipline ourselves!)

但時下之人規矩是用來匡正別人的。

Yes, but people always apply rules and regulations to rectify others,

but not to themselves.

今天大家入了佛門，來到這個聖地，了解規矩其實是為了自己而訂的，為的是讓自己因持戒而無犯，

Now it is our honor and privilege to be in this solemn Temple,

we should keep in mind that all these precepts are intended for ourselves.

以前不知，當然不知戒在何處；

今天來到此地，你們知道有佛規，這佛規也只不過是規矩的一部份！

Maybe we did not know before,

but now we learn of these Temple etiquettes,

we should follow them for discipline.

人立在這個紅塵當中，要有規矩來規戒，才能夠方正。

Like a ruler that can help us draw a straight line,

they serve as great guidelines for us to become straight and upright.
