Xun Jubo visited a sick friend from afar, just when the Hu rebels were attacking the city. His friend exhorted him to leave, "I am going to die now, please go." Xun replied, "I came a long way to see you but dissert you to save my own life. Is that a righteous thing for me to do?" Then the Hu stormed in, asking Xun, "Everybody had been running away when our troop came. What kind the person you are, daring to stay put alone?" Xun said, "My friend is sick. I just cannot bear it to dissert him, and I would rather to die for him." The rebels were looking at one another and saying, "We are the men not doing the right thing, but now we attacked a city of righteousness!" Then the Hu ordered to withdraw, and the whole city was saved.
