From Ears to Eyes – Witness of PB-art

The word on the street is that there are some small animals living on the Zhongshan Linear Park, and they are great playmates for children and also fabulous photograph buddies.  There are also singing robots there sharing wonderful music with everyone, and at the Zhongshan Underground Street Exit No. R4, giant hot air balloons are floating around with the flow of the wind.  Upon entering into the MRT station, one could also go on a galactic journey on a spaceship.

Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei Plaza to MRT Station Public Art Installation Project” is presented by the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs, and executed by the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei.  Four artists are invited to participate in the project, and they are: Lee Yihsun, Liang Jenhung, Akibo, and Hsu Tangwei.  Each of them has used contemporary art approaches to create works fitting for the entire public art project.  Through their efforts, MRT Zhongshan Station and extending to the linear park by the museum and the Zhongshan Underground Street R4 Exit are creatively renovated, and the previously mechanical and plain locations are turned into fun art-filled destinations for everyone.  At the same time, the intention of the project is to also redefine the area’s local distinct characteristics, and through the transformation of the spatial ambiance, an art park is created to bring a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation to the urban dwellers of the city.

“From Ears to Eyes - Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei Plaza to MRT Station Public Art Installation Project” intends to show a cohesive presentation through the concepts proposed by the artists.  In addition to the interactive installations, four integral public art approaches are also focused on, and they are: installation process, artist introduction, public participation, and the actual public artworks.  Through these procedures and as the artworks continue to interact with people in the park, the meanings embodied in theses public artworks in conjunction with the outcomes from the public’s participation would allow for the public artworks to integrate into people’s lives.

The project hopes that public art could liven up people’s interaction and conversation with each other, and also strengthen the connection with the local culture.  When the installation is complete, the public artworks will carry on the interaction with people with diverse artistic styles, and they will become a medium for the “listening” and the “speaking”.  People are encouraged to view the artworks with their own perspectives, and the artworks are meant to become closer with the public and become a part of their lives.  With new visual impacts and new subjects for conversation inside the park, people’s sense of visual and life aesthetics could be elevated, as they open up and share their emotions and thoughts.
