Arhat  阿羅漢

   Arhan, arhat, lohan; worthy, venerable; an enlightened, saintly man; the highest type or ideal saint in Hi^naya^na in contrast with the bodhisattva as the saint in Maha^ya^na; intp. as 應供worthy of worship, or respect; intp. as 殺賊 arihat, arihan, slayer of the enemy, i.e. of mortality; for the arhat enters nirvana 不生 not to be reborn, having destroyed the karma of reincarnation; he is also in the stage of 不學 no longer learning, having attained.

   語阿羅漢，小乘聲聞乘中的最高果位名，華言無學。謂阿羅漢諸漏已盡，梵行具足，出現世間，開示四諦，令諸眾生脫離生死，皆得無量義利安樂，是為眾生之師範也。

一譯殺賊，殺盡煩惱賊之賊。

二譯應供，當受天上人間供養之意。
