Ten epithets of the Buddha 佛十號
(1)、Tatha^gata 如來
Tatha^gata, interpreted as "thus-come" (tatha^ + a^gata) This is one of the ten epithets 十號 of the Buddha, with the implication that the Buddha's achievement of enlightenment has come through a path of practice that other sentient beings can follow.
梵語 tatha^gata,巴利語同。譯言如來,為佛十號之一,即佛之尊稱。蓋梵語 tatha^gata 可分解為:
Tatha^-gata(如去),為乘真如之道,而往於佛果涅槃之義,故稱如去。
Tatha^-a^gata(如來)為由真理而來(如實而來),而成正覺之義,故稱如來。
佛陀即乘真理而來,由真如而現身,故尊稱佛陀為如來。
(2)、Arhat 應供
"one who deserves offerings"This is one of the ten epithets 十號 of the Buddha.
梵語 arhat 或 arhant,巴利語 arahat 或 arahant。音譯阿羅漢,為佛十號之一。又作應真、應,指斷盡一切煩惱,萬行圓成,智斷功德已具足圓滿,應受人天供養、尊敬者。
(3)、Asmyak-sam!buddha 正遍知
Correct peerless enlightenment (samyak-sam!buddha), or someone who has attained this--a buddha. This is one of the ten epithets 十號 of the Buddha. Same as 正等覺.
梵語 asmyak-sam!buddha,音譯作三藐三佛陀,佛十號之一。謂具一切智,於一切法,無不了知。以一切法平等開覺一切眾生,成無上覺,故號正等覺。
(4)、Vidya^-carana-sam!panna 明行足
Perfected in wisdom and action ( Vidya^-carana-sam!panna; Tib. rig pa dan^ shabs su ldan pa). One who has consummated knowledge and practice. One of the ten epithets of the Buddha. Originally a Jain term that was borrowed by the Buddhists.
佛十號之一。Vidya^-caran!a-sam!panna。依涅槃經之說,明者,阿耨多羅三藐三菩提也,行足者,腳足之義,指戒定慧。佛依戒定慧之腳足而得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,故名明行足。
(5)、Lokavid 世間解
lokavid, 知世間Knower of the Secular World. One who fully understands the nature and function of the world (Skt. lokavid; Pali loka-vidu^). This is one of the ten epithets of the Buddha.
梵語 lokavid又作知世間,為佛十號之一。即佛能暸知有情、非情二種世間之一切既暸知世間之因、世間之滅,亦暸知出世間之道
(6)、Anuttara 無上士
The peerless nobleman, the Buddha.The unsurpassed person--the Buddha (anuttara). One of the ten epithets 十號 of the Buddha.
梵話 anuttara,佛十號之一。又作無上、無上丈夫。如來之智德,於人中最勝,無有過之者,故稱無上士。
(7)、Purus!a-damya-sa^rathi 調御丈夫
調御丈夫(梵語涅槃,華言滅度。)佛十號之一。謂具大丈夫力用,而說種種諸法,調伏制御一切可度的丈夫,佛能調御使他們發心修道,令離垢染,得大涅槃,故號調御丈夫。
(8)、Saastaa devamam.syaanaam 天人師
`Saastaa devamam.syaanaam,Teacher of gods and men; one the the ten epithets 十號 of the Buddha, because he reveals goodness and morality, and is able to save.
(9)、Buddha 佛
Means "the Enlightened One" or "the Awakened One".
世尊World Honoured One
One of the titles of the Buddha. In Sutras, this is the respected title of Shakyamuni Buddha. (
佛,華言覺。謂智慧具足,三覺圓滿,故號為佛。(三覺者,自覺、覺他、覺行圓滿。)
(10) 世尊
lokajyes!t!ha, world's most Venerable, or lokana^tha, lord of worlds. 盧迦委斯諦; 路迦那他 World-honoured, an epithet of every Buddha. Also a tr. of Bhagavat, v. 婆.

Translation of the Sanskrit and Pali bhagavat and the Sanskrit lokana^tha meaning "world-honored one." One of the ten epithets 十號 of the Buddha.
