To turn to and rely on. 歸依

Same as 歸命. To trust in absolutely; to rely upon without any trace of doubt. To have full and perfect trust in the Buddha's teaching. To "turn to and rely upon." (/saran!a). (2) To venerate the Three Treasures of Buddhism (the Buddha, the dharma and the sangha).

佛教之歸依，即指歸依佛、法、僧三寶。我國佛教界，初入佛門者，必須經過歸依儀式，誓願歸依佛、歸依法、歸依僧之後，始被認定為正式之佛教徒。

歸依佛，歸投依靠佛陀的指示而追求真理的意思。

歸依法，歸投依靠教義而求得真理的意思。

歸依僧，歸投依靠僧伽的引導而正信佛教的意思。

南傳佛教界，在一切佛教行事之初，亦皆須三度諷誦三歸依文。
