不環保的保麗龍杯，又悄悄在市面上氾濫起來了！最近有網友投訴，知名的茶飲連鎖業者，標榜使用保麗龍杯，而且一天賣出超過80萬杯，這些保麗龍杯不但嚴重污染環境，若遇熱釋放的物質，還可能會致癌。

With little fanfare, environmentally-unfriendly polystyrene cups are once again flooding the market. Internet users have recently charged that a renowned chain of tea-drink retailers is flaunting its use of polystyrene cups while selling more than 800,000 cups of its products every day. In addition to their impact on the environment, meanwhile, the substances these cups release when in contact with heat are suspected of causing cancer.

保麗龍杯的保冰、保溫性很強，加上保麗龍成本又低，成為業者愛用的主要原因，有不少消費者也很喜歡，然而保麗龍問題卻很多，不只會嚴重污染環境，它還會危害健康，在常溫下會釋放出苯乙烯這種有毒物質，超過70度時會大量釋出，長期接觸恐怕有致癌危機。

Polystyrene cups have powerful insulating properties which help keep beverages cold or warm as desired. In addition, while their low cost makes them attractive to retailers, they are also widely liked by consumers. There are, however, many problems associated with Polystyrene as in addition to its harmful environmental impact it also presents certain health risk. In effect, long-term contact with the styrene-related toxins released when polystyrene is heated, particularly at temperatures above 70 degrees, is thought to incur a risk of cancer.

現行的限塑政策當中，並沒有對於專賣外帶的茶飲店有所限制，只能提醒大家，想解渴喝杯飲料時，挑選使用紙杯或環保塑膠杯的茶飲店，還是會對自己的健康比較有保障。

Current policies to limit the use of plastics place no restriction on take-away beverage retailers, so consumers can only be reminded, in the interest of their own health, to choose shops that use paper or environmentally-friendly plastics for their cups when they wish to buy a drink.
