中式英文： 

They hoax him out of his money.

（他們把他的錢騙光了。）

 改錯研析：

1. They scammed him out of his money.

2. They swindled him out of his money.

(1) hoax 不管「動詞」還是「名詞」，都是「惡作劇」或「謊報」的意思，跟「騙錢」無關，當然也不能用來表示騙錢；例如，謊稱有炸彈的行為叫做 a bomb hoax，報警謊稱有炸彈的惡作劇電話就叫做 bomb hoax calls，此處的 hoax 都是「名詞」，hoax 的「及物動詞」用法可參閱以下 Merriam-Webster 例句：

People were hoaxed by the Web site.

（人們被那個網站愚弄了。）

雖然惡作劇或謊報都跟中文的「騙」有關，但英文「騙錢」不能跟中文一樣，把「騙」(hoax) 和「錢」(money) 寫在一起即可。

(2) 如果不管原句 hoax 的用字是否正確，「動詞時態」也應該是「過去式」(hoaxed) 而不是「現在式」(hoax)。 

(3)「騙錢」的「動詞」是 swindle 或 scam，而且 swindle/scam someone out of his/her money 是「騙某人的錢」，但並沒有「把錢騙光」的意思，否則應該講：

a. The swindlers took all his money.

b. His bank accounts were wiped clean by the swindlers.

(4) 也可用「片語動詞」clean out 來表示錢財被洗劫（詐騙）一空，那麼原句應該寫成：

a. He was cleaned out by the scammers.

b. His bank accounts were cleaned out by the scammers.
